CLK 55 AMG March 2000
New Member - Best wishes from Germany
Hi,everybody,
and the best wishes for the new year from Germany.
I own a CLK 55 since August 2000 and enjoy it daily like no car before. I was very surprised to discover this forum and I like it very much, especially the technical informations. There seem to be a lot of these cars in the US.
I am pissed too, that the CLK 55 -W 209- is not any more the most dynamic car in the MB-program.
All the rumors about a Kompressor-Version are strictly denied by
Merc. itself and by AMG, who I called recently.
So lets hope they just deny it for sales-political reasons, despite they are on the way with it.
Have fun with your cars !

Frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch!
V8 - are you racing with the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn daily? Is that why you are hoping for the supercharged AMG, because the standard 55 AMG is too slow??

Thank You all for answering,
@karl k : You seem to know Wuppertal, yes, racing the Schwebebahn is a good idea in respect of supporting the earnings of the city by paying fines.
I prefer the "obere Lichtenplatzer Straße", which has some nice curves to try out road-holding, at a legal speed level.
As You know, 1/4 mile is not popular over here. But a certain "Tony Rowe" is trying to establish "Operation Street Legal" here, to make the 1/4 mile popular. It is said, he is a famous person in the US. Can someone confirm this ?
At one of these events I lost twice against Camaros by a quarter car-lenght. Reasons could be lack of traction at the start, but also the weight of the CLK. So a 500 hp version would be welcome.

Sorry, no pics,
but You dont miss much.It is a plain CLK 55 , silver with silver/black interior.
The only mod is the rear ashtray-mod.
The rear ashtray tends to snap out of his lock at the Autobahn at higher speeds, if the pavement is not perfect.
This causes a sudden rattling noise, no joke at speeds around and over 150 mph. First time I got really scared.
I did not get a lot of feedback when I told them at the service. So
I added another spring at the rear side of the ashtray to rise the force which presses the ashtray into the lock, now the problem is solved.
I would like to have other wheels and tires for better traction without loosing original appearence, did not find any solution until now.

Except cars, my personal stuff is a bit obsolete.Have no Digi-Cam yet.
Maybe I can afford one till next Christmas, if I dont spend all the money for a new car .
I`ll try to let scan one foto from last 1/4 race in Bitburg.

Stefan -
got a digicam for Christmas. It looked so complex, I immediately put it back into the box. Hopefully with enough courage, I'll turn it on by New Year's Day!!
PS
Ich schwebte ueber der Wupper vor 50 Jahren - Klassenausflug von Herten.

Thats not bad for the first try,
lets name it "contemporary art deco adaption of a benzes wheel"
(excuse my poor English, I was educated (?) at public schools)
Hopefully I get one of these machines next Christmas.
The snow has gone Tuesday, no more need to drive the winter beater for the next days
I wish I would be in Hollywood (Fla.)

The excursion was in the Corkscrew Swamp near Naples, Florida - 140 miles from Miami via "Alligator Alley".
