CLK55 questions
Hi,
I recently bought a 01 CLK55. I have a couple questions I hope someone can answer for me.
1) I read that the tranmission fluid should be changed every 50000 miles. About how much does this process run? $100? $1000? $10000? Will any Mercedes mechanic be able to do this for me, or will I need to find some specialist?
2) I was thinking of getting some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. I only drive on the road. Are these a good choice, or do you have any recommendations? Should I stick with the 225/45R17,245/40R17, or can I get something like 225/45R17,245/35R17 (they don'tmake any smaller front tires)?
3) Does anyone know of a reputable Mercedes mechanic in the Pittsburgh area?
Thanks.

i would check the aspect ratio on those rears first. do a search on tire calculators and you will see what i mean. you dont want them spinning too fast or too slow. you car will not be happy.

You comment that you only drive on the road is somewhat odd? What other options where you considering- the track (if so consider an R-compound tire).
I have the F1 DS-D3 tires and they are excellent, especially in the rain. Another top choice is the Michilin PS2. As for the aspect ratio, you will want to go 5%lower in the rear. For example, my car has 235/35 up front and 265/30 in the rear.
Also, I don't believe you will find 245/35 profile tires as the 35 aspect ratio is for 18' rims and above. You could do 235/45 in the front and 255/40 in the rear on your stock 17" rims. Try tirerack.com. Good luck.

When you buy your tires just check with the sales rep on the 235 and 255 for your rims. Luke at Tirerack is a good source of information and help. He will hook you up with the proper set of tires for your rims.
