MB CLK55 & BMW E46 M3
M3 is more of a sports car, is much more fun to drive and let loose on twisty roads. The CLK55 is a highway rocket and nice smooth cruising car.

I had the chance to drive and ride in my instructors E46 M3 and in my CLK55 at a track day on the Miller Sports Park last year. My instructor was surprised on how good the brakes were on my car and I was surprised on how the M3 felt like we weren't going anywhere (I didn't say that to him). I think the difference is that the CLK has so much more torque in the lower RPM range in comparison to the M3 that on the track road course it was like night and day- IMHO. What I noticed was that the instructor really had to wind the M3 RPM ranges up to get full HP- which doesn't work so well at the track when you have to full brake to 10 mph and then burst again to 60 and then brake again. In such situations the torque and extra HP of the CLK placed a smile on my face.
That being said, after riding in both, I was pretty happy to own the CLK because of its power and acceleration in sharp turns and quick bursts of speed to the next turn. I believe that installation of stiffer springs and track pads more than even the track performance in comparison to other vehicles (Porsche and BMW). However, there were a lot of M3's old and new at the track and a lot of them were driven by instructors- which says something. Either is a good choice- to have both is the best
Good luck with the sale.

Good luck on the sale, 123,000 miles is quite alot. But you've got it pretty reasonably priced, so the real question will be if anybody in your neck of the woods is looking to buy a RWD car headed into the winter.
