Replaced the motor mounts! Much better now.

After my last trip to the track I really started noticing the engine mounts were bad. Couple days after the track I punched it in 2nd and let off and I could feel the engine slam down and clunk. The mounts are suprisingly very easy to replace on these cars. Just 2 bolts on each and nothing needs to be moved. On the bottom bolt on each side I used a socket with an extension and on the top bolt on each side I used a ratchet with a shallow 16mmm socket and that worked well. Big thanks to Autohaus Arizona for getting the parts to me quickly and at a good price. I did change the trans mount too.

Here you can see we used a block to distribute the weight across the oil pan when jacking up the engine.

Here's the passenger side mount still in place.

You can see the driver side mount has been leaking for a long time and shooting grease all over in there.

Here is the old passenger side mount.

Here is the old vs. new mount for passenger side.

Here is the driver side mount. It was BAD!

Here's both bad mounts compared to a new one.

Sorry if the pics are blurry, but all I had at the time was my cell phone.
The job took about an hour, but we had it on the lift so it made it a bit easier. Definitely a straight forward DIY job if you want to save the money!

Thanks for the pics, this was helpful. By the way how bad was the transmission mount? Was that little part shot or was it okay?

funny thing. when i bought my clk 55 amg, i noticed a dent on the hood; however the dent was reversed like someone left something in the bay and closed the hood. Today after surfing the net i found out how that dent came to be. when the mounts are really bad, the engine can move enough to create such a dent.lol.

i replaced the mounts after buying the car however at some point in the future i am seriously considering either solid or custom poly mounts.

Wow, I had the 2 Engine Mounts changed along with the tranny mount and what a difference!!!

The car had a rumble at and after start up like a really bad bumpy idle (it got worse over the past couple of months), but after changing these items, the car is almost silent when idling! I'm not kidding!

It feels like I got a complete tune up! lol.

Do this before a tune up.

trying this myself. Any tips on exactly how to get the top bolt loose? I can easily get a stubby ratchet and shallow 16mm socket on, but there is no room/no leverage to break the nut free.
Any tips?

Was able to fix myself. I tried a stubby ratcheting box wrench, but was unable to keet it solidly on that top nut on the drivers side. So I used a 16mm shallow socket and about a 6 or 7 inch long 3/4 drive breaker bar. I had the breaker bar as close to the engine block as possible leaving just enough room for me to get a 18inch prybar up between the breaker bar and the engine block. Once I got the prybar up there, I used it as a lever against the breaker bar to break the nut free. Once I was able to pop it loose on the initial turn, I was able to pretty easily use the 16mm on a short ratchet to loosen it/remove it the rest of the way.

Also..I left one mount in place/secured while I worked on the other side. I suggest NOT having both mounts out at the same time or else you may run into major issues aligning the engine back up over the mount holes properly. I also found it easier to loosen the bottom bolt slightly..then using the jack method shown in this thread, jack up the engine about 1 to 1.5 inches. Then get to work on that top bolt. Once the top bolt is free, I had to jack up the engine about 1 more inch to get the old mount out of there. Each time I jacked the engine I got out and checked the distance between fan blade to upper inside portion of fan shroud.

I think Kleemann is recommended their customer to used oem E55 Kompressor engine mount when installed Kleemann SC kit. Check out the video with bad engine mount.......

You mean the part? I highly recommended you buy OEM part. Mine OEM engine mount part have an extra cover layer of rubber protection from heat drying up the engine mount rubber.
