It typically means the brake light switch is bad. It's part number 001-545-64-09 and has a list price of $19.18. If you're a MBCA member, the discount price is $10.50. It takes a few minutes to change. There's a page at Signal to Noise that describes how to replace it. On the left side of the page, scroll down to Mercedes-Benz Brake Switch.

I turned my car off then on, and they weren't
On anymore. should I still replace the part?

Could have been intermittent. I would still order the part and either change it precautionary or have it on hand. This is a very common probem.

I had the same lights come on often on my clk55. What I did was disconnected the battery for couple hrs and problem solved!
