how do e55 w210 compare to clk55 w208 why does e55 have more hp and tq?
New potential owner here
I was going to buy 00 e55 but got sold before i jumped on it
now im considering a clk55 2002
what i have found out is that torque and hp is lower on the clk why is this?
also rear tires are only 245 vs 275 on the e55?
are clk55 slower than e55?
how do they compare as far as reliability?

The W208 is rated lower due to the exhaust. According to MBUSA's stats, the 4-door E55 has a 5.4 second zero to sixty time, while the lighter CLK coupe managed a 4.9 second time.
Yes, the stock tire size is 245 in the rear. It was, and continues to be a serious traction issue. I run 265s in the rear with no rubbing issues.
As far as reliability, there are more service bulletins on the W210 than the W208....but taken care of both are good cars.
Question is: Do you need 4-doors or can you manage with 2?

Honestly, they don't make any less power. If you look at all the actual real world dyno results they CLK55s dyno the same as their W210 counterparts, MB just played their typical numbers game to manipulate their numbers so the sales of the CLK55 would not eat into the sales of their E55.
A few of the CLk55s are actually making more power stock than the E55s, that is probably why they are so quick & underrated. Hope that helps.

Mmmmm let me see......oh hey that would be ME!!!!
275 will fit even with car lowered on Euro springs. If I hit a big dip or bump they will rub just a touch.
Really fills the fenders and makes the car look very aggressive!!!![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Doesn't hurt the handling either. Sticks well with that much rubber on it.

By the way just for the record.
My car at the same dyno event put down at the rear wheels:
302HP and 320 lb ft of TQ.
A virtual match to Chappy's car.

Considering the consistency we saw at the day at the dyno. I would bet just about the same.
We ran W211 E55s, CLS55, SLK55s, SL55s etc.
Each model of car was remarkably close to the other in its group.
ALL cars when factored for drive line loss developed more HP and TQ than the factory quoted. The super charged cars especially.
When Jeremy Clarkson of TOP GEAR says 500HP he is even low in his estimates.
These are very powerful well built and well developed cars.
AMG did not leave a lot on the table. Yes you can get more out of them but it costs a great deal of money and I would bet durability over the long run.

Based on real world dyno results most of the W208 CLK55s are putting down around 350-365 crank HP stock and roughly 380-395 torque so they are not really weaker.
Plus if you do the math MB purposely picked a HP rating that was as close to the same HP/weight ratio as the W210 E55 AMG so its clear that was their intention (just like M3/M5 syndrome, MB suffers from the same thing but with power instead of weight #s).

Personally I think they should have come that way from the factory. It transforms the look of the car. Makes it much more aggressive looking.
