CLS 55 AMG - one of the last off the AMG line
Is there such a thing? Non OEM Bumper suppliers for AMG bumper?

I am having a dispute with Mercedes, who is telling me that my bumper is not "original" - as its missing a sticker and some mounting holes internally.

My right hand side wheel arch cover fell off (after Mercedes fitted it) and they are telling me that it fell off as my bumper is not Mercedes Benz. Strangely - all the AMG grills, etc fit perfectly. Fog lights etc.

Has anyone heard of replacement AMG bumpers that arent Mercedes ? My thinking is the market for that would be so small that why bother. It sounds to me like Merc trying to avoid paying to replace a bad job on their part. When I paid for the original work to be done - no one in the garage told me the bumper wasnt original.

What does this sound like to you guys ? Picture of the bumper attached

Yes. In the US, we have many non-OEM body parts available. Bumpers, fenders, hoods, you name it. Body shops use aftermarket knock offs to save a little money and charge the full MB rate to the insurance company. For example, at a US dealer, the replacement CLK55 bumper cover retails for $825. For under $300, this is a non-OEM bumper.

How do these non-OEM kits compare to OEM AMG parts in terms of durability and reliability? I hate when I see cars wobbling down the road with flimsy-*** kits installed.

I wish some of these aftermarket companies would produce the bumper insert or air splitter piece. They'd make a killing if they sold it by itself..

Unfortunately, I can't say first hand. Or fortunately, because I've never need one. But at any rate, I can only imagine the quality depends on the manufacturer. Some build bumper covers that need a lot of bodywork (junk that never fits right), while are closer to a perfect fit. With the MBCA discount, the CLK55 bumper is $619 (part #2088850525). For the few hundred more, I'd buy a factory part.
