Using a floor jack

It looks like I have two options when using a floor jack to lift my '04 CLK55 AMG at the front factory jack points...cut a piece of oak to fit inside the jack point area, or use a piece of wood (or similar hard object) that fits across the "frame" that defines the jack point. I can't determine though if the "frame" is weight bearing - feels like hard plastic.

Suggestions?

I cut a piece of end-grain oak to fit in the jack point slot. It sits on the floor jack cradle, and works like a champ.

haters crazy
There should be jack points under the car where the jack slots are. At least there is for the W208. Looks like a rubber pad

Just to clarify...

Are you trying to lift the front of the car with one floor jack?

No...just taking the wheels off and putting them back on one at a time.

It is the surround that makes up the "slot" that I was concerned about damaging. It appears to be hard plastic. One of them is actually dented where someone jacked the car with something that dug into the surround. The "frame", or surround, may be weight bearing, but I couldn't find any information confirming this. If it were designed to be weight bearing, you'd think the factory jack would be designed to lift from it (that is, the jack would have a flat surface to sit against the flat bottom surface of the "frame").

In any case, the piece of oak I cut fits in the slot as perfectly as the plastic lift piece on the jack provided with the car. Works like a champ.

This is a more expensive solution, however it is one of the best engineered lifting soultions for the Mercedes. I bought one and will not use anything else. I never have to worry if my car is going to slip off the jack. http://www.reverselogic.us/ReverseLo...d/Home.htmlthe Mercedes.
