Snow tires sizes?

in need of some snow tires soon

i currently hear the General Altimax Artic are the best for snow/Ice.

i currently have 225/45/17 up front and 245/40//17 in the rear on my monoblocks.

general makes the 225/45/17 but for the rear they only have a 245/65/17.

Will the 245/65/17 fit in the rears?

they also make a 235/45/17... any help would be great thanks

It's better to stick with OEM tire specs. Changing those specs may affect rolling diameter.

On your rear rims? No. I put 225/45/17 snow tires, on dedicated rims, all around on the CLK. (The "sunset" picture of the CLK in my signature is with the snows on). It's also better to buy separate rims and have the tires mounted just once, instead of mounting/unmounting every year, since each time you mount/unmount a tire, you stress the sidewall. Given that our summer tires only last what, maybe 2 years?, it probably doesn't hurt as much as somebody who would change summer/snow tires over 4-5 years though.

And it's better to have all 4 snow tires the same size (if they will fit on the car). Wider tires in the rear means that they will still be plowing snow behind the front tires, whereas if the tires are the same size, the front tires plow the path and the rear tires just follow on the same path (straight line, of course!).
