Nice work blazing trails in clk mods territory.

Based on your experience I'm thinking my shorty headers and 300 cell 2ndary cats might hold me back....... perhaps kleeman mid-length headers and 200 cell cats next.

It never ends.

Please keep us fed with details.... we're eating it up.

Dual exhaust ready to be installed
Well the heat has finally let up. This Saturday I'll bring the Car out to the shop . put it up on the hoist. And start the install. All the welds are back purged with Argon Gas and the bends were mandrel pre-bent , 3" 409 S.S. Pipe. No Kinks or flat spots

Dual Exhaust Project
I thought I would include some shots of the Roush Racing , S.S. Exhaust tips. I'm Not trying to fool anyone , I just want too show , it is a True custom exhaust. I also put some race header resonator's (3") in diameter, at the end of the exhaust system , welded to the outlet tips. Because it is at the end these should dampen at Drone & Cause no loss of Horse power

Pte, I plan on a similar direction. The info about the sway bar is good to know. Im not as far into it as you are but I do have a question for ya since you've spent alot of time underneath the car. Do you think 2 2.25 inch pipes will fit in the stock tunnel?

true dual Exhaust for a W-208 AMG
Dohcfiend:
I believe that you could go as large as (2) 2-1/2" exhaust pipe in the tunnel. getting around & under the Anti sway bar & diff. gets to be difficult.
Look to Blackbenz , He may have a post with Pictures . If I remember right He doesn't have any Mufflers and his exhaust is pretty LOUD!
If you are local you are welcomed to look at what I have while the car is on the lift, I still have the Carlsson ? Super sprint rear Muffler available , Single 3" in/ & could be made to Dual 2-1/4 in easily.

Check out my exhaust thread. I did something simial to PTE and went with 2.5" SS piping with no problems.

awesome! sounds encouraging. The way i plan on going about it is removing the resonator, installing a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler upstream, then installing 2 single resonators downstream as close to the tips as possible.

the original plan was to run 2 2.25inch pipe together through the stock exhaust tunnel until after it clears the rear suspension, then run the second pipe diagonal through the spare compartment through the trunk to the other tip. I am going to have a 4 inch pipe cut in half, have a 4inch section cout out of the spare tire well and then have the 4 inch half welded into the spare tire comp to make a new tunnel for the other pipe.

i am however going to price out the other spare tire comp that can be ordered for a cost comparison now.

also found a carbon fiber insert for the stock bumper that allows 2 new tips so i gotta price that out versus cutting and repainting the stock bumper. Something tells me cutting and painting will be cheaper but that insert has a much better look and i gotta weigh out the extra cost versus the more professional looking install when its finished.

3" exhaust installed
Well it took 2 days of cutting & fitting , welding . The Klee down pipes from the headers is 2.5" , I used their supplied Cats & ran 2.5" from them to the Magna flow muffler with the X built inside . Then 3" from the muffler outlet to the rear Bumper.

1st - pic is a shot from the muffler to the cats ( Don't mind the shop, it's a mess)
2nd - pic is a passenger side B/S anti sway bar. as the 3" exhaust passes under loop in the anti sway bar ( Notice I used a MB exh Hangers & Grommets ,to keep the vibration / noise to a minum )

3RD - Left side pic of the passenger exhaust , under the B/S anti sawy bar

4th - Pic is the Drivers side 3" exhaust pipe as it passes under the anti sawt bar

5th - Pic is a shot of the pipes tucked up nicely and can not be seen from as the car sits . More to come as I dress out the bumper fit & install the rear hangers.

Cheers _PTEngineering.

Looks Great! Really coming along. That piping looks huge! Quick question, why swap the spare wheel well if your not going to fit any mufflers? Did you just want a cleaner look? Wouldn't the pipe fit with the stock setup?

True Dual Exhaust
I don't know if the Tubs will back fit to early years CLK's The reason I chose to do my project this way , was because the did not like how the right side exhaust would have to be snaked around the OEM tub. I had in mind to use
3" pipe and True duals , something seems to be holding the car / engine back , Not that 435 RWHP isn't enought. The last time I had a HP issue . It was resolved with installing the Klee headers. Hopefully This exhaust set up will Improve over the Single OEM 3"

Torque Management & TCU Issues
Hello all:
Well I finally got to the Track, To test out my updated ECU & TCU I wanted the RPM limiter raised to 6800 rpm . But It seem to only go up there 1st thru 2nd . 1 too 2 shift is good & firm in dyno mode. I have the Blue top solenoids, and did a Complete trans service. ( no metal or clutch plate particals). just a 1000 miles ago. 2nd to 3rd , the shift hesitates badly. so bad everybody asks why I am letting out of throttle. I'm using 275/40-17 Mickey Drag radials. But this also happens withStreet tire is sport mode.
Here are some videos. Every body has good comments on the Exhaust

patrick how did your friend blend the cutouts to look factory? also do you think its possible to retrofit the tire well from a r171 to a r170 to allow a dual exhaust like you did? this is amazing work and i would love to adapt it to my slk32 for a true dual exhaust

You should be able to switch the wheel well, but you might also have to switch the rear sway bar.

Any times avail on those runs? Looks strong.
Exhaust is not too loud at all. Very streetable.
I wonder if a taller tire would keep you out of 4th gear at the top end?

Thanks for the film treat! It's making the wait for my ride that much harder!!!!!!!

So in the final analysis is there a 23mm or larger front bar that is an easy bolt on
for W209 CLK & W203 C Class?

I redid The Exhaust , Too Much Drone
Yesterday I took took the Car up to Dan’s Performance & Mufflers in Stuart. It all went well, 2 hours Labor is all I was charged. and It took 2 hours . Dan was very fussy . All the welds were just tacked. The alignment and Pipe angles were dead nuts perfect. . I left there and came home & pulled off the complete exhaust system. And went up Extreme Marine Power Where we ( Mostly Bob Wood ) spent the next 3 hours tig welding all the Joints. I got to say I was very impressed with Bob’s new Miller pulse wave 250 welder , The arc brightens & Dims from what I can tell. The noise level is very low & very QUIET. I’ll be reinstalling the system today . The system update. I removed the Magna Flow X pipe muffler, Installed a new x-pipe as close to the engine as the system would allow. I Took the little header mufflers , I had in the rear valance area , and moved them to, with-in 16" of the x-pipe. I then had some Spin Tech Mufflers built . with the outlet offset 5/8th of an inch. This was to get a straight shot to the bumper opening for the tips. More to come
