01 vs 02 CLK55, updates?

Any upgrades or improved parts between these 2 years? I know 2001's had issues with MAF's check engine lights, same for 2002? Looking to buy a 208 CLK55 soon.

2002 CLK430
The same MAF part number appears for both 2001 and 2002. That part number is 1130940048. If you’re worried about MAF issues, my 2002 CLK430 uses the same part. I’m still using my original equipment MAF with no issues – and I’m closing in on 150,000 miles. I’m not saying that others don’t, but I have a regular filter schedule and only use high quality filters. Based on my experience, the MAF that came with my car is solid. I’ve read MAF posts from others who would disagree regarding theirs, so YMMV.

BTW, that same MAF part number is used on the C, CL, CLK, CLS, E, S, SL, SLK, G, and R in the 430, 500, 55, 55K, and 600 engines. I’m seeing it listed for vehicles as late as 2008.

IIRC the 2001 and 2002 CLK55’s are basically the same. Off hand, the only difference that I can remember between the two years was the center caps on the wheels (AMG thin spokes, which were not used on the US spec CLK55, but appear in some ROW CLK55 literature).

It was the introductory year for the CLK55, but a lot of stuff was added/upgraded for the CLK line in 2001 - ME 2.8 was added, additional transmission upgrades (this is on top of the roller bearing that replaced the brass bushing in 2000 722.6 transmissions), the one touch sunroof, the windows drop about a half-inch when the doors are opened, redesigned wheels, enhanced Tele-Aid functions (remote unlocking, diagnostics and alarm notification) and the smart key was redesigned. It doesn't surprise me that the only differences I remember listed were colors.

The 2001 CLK55 press release can be read here.
I keep another CLK55 press document here.
And a doc they gave us at another CLK55 press event here.
Did someone say specs?

This past Wednesday and Thursday were press days at the LA Auto Show. A Mercedes rep told me "every Mercedes-Benz automobile is a collectable". I'm not sure I can disagree with her.

Correct, plus a couple other minor things.

Beginning with '02, the Ski Sack was standard, as was the inside trunk safety release. However, I remember one or two folks mentioned they had the illuminated button in their trunk on their '01 CLK55.

The grin factor was the same for all 208/55s!
