Right NavTeq CD set for our COMANDs?
I have a 2002 CLK 55 cab (just passed 13,000 miles
) with a Euro-model (love the British accent
) COMAND unit installed by SteveNL back in 2005.
I am still running with the original 2001-era CD (disc #1 for California/Nevada) and would like to upgrade.
After a bit of Googling I saw a post on another site that confused me:
"Also, the "C" nav disc set released in 02/04, part number BQ 6 46 0191, is in short supply - lots of folks might want those. The latest "D" nav set (02/09) is BQ 6 46 0248."
How do I find out which of these sets will work in my older Euro COMAND unit?

a 2002 doesn't use q-6-46-0191 it uses q-6-46-0248, but then again I don't know what steve put in your car, so you should ask him what version you have. They are not interchangeable I still would think you would most likely have the 0248 since the 0191 was for the early production S-Class

Thanks Cindy & Jon. I guess my confusion here is, I am seeing these systems described as "C-Navi COMAND" and "D-Navi COMAND" units. I was wondering how one can tell the difference, is there anything in the unit's SYS function that would tell me this?
I found an old e-mail from Steve's sister saying "The navigation CD you need, must be for a DX (!) COMAND. Don't know for sure if 'D' would do the trick as well.".

i think the disc technology itself was the same for euro and USA 208 CLKs. In Europe the CD discs are Travelpilot DX ; I don't know who makes the USA ones. I have the Euro version - yes, that British woman really tells me where to go!
Ebay can be a good source for discs. If necessary the dealer should also have them - but new ones are pricey.

It is the D nav...you should be able to get one from ebay...California usually sells the highest. FYI, Navteq trolls ebay. It is illegal to split the sets and sell individually. They complain to ebay and the auction is yanked. If you see a disk you want, it will never make it through the 7 day auction. Write down the seller's ID and contact them after it disappears. I have made a lot of money splitting sets but I post them on the weekend with a buy it now. I cancel the auctions before Monday morning so I don't get banned from ebay. You can also look in the forum classifieds.
