I think I might be onto something.

I had the alignment checked. The right rear was set at 6mm/1.0 degree and toe at 0. They set the rr to 5mm/0.9 degree and toe to match the other at 0.19 min and not the rear/drive line vibration is gone.

Get the rear alignment checked and see what you get.

I sure need to. : ) I haven't done alignment since I put spings on.. I was waiting for camber kit to do the alignment afterwards, but all this BS happen.

anyway, I talked to Mb tech on this forum, and he is assuming it is tranny mount, since it is very common issue, or if not.. possibility of flex disc, but he highly doubt it with my miles.

I am getting exhaust installed tomorrow along with engine and tranny mount, so I will keep update!!

LETS SOLVE THIS!!!

I just had the engine and trans mounts replaced.

What are you doing to the exhaust?

I thought I told you last time... may be not.

I got Kleemann Headers and ECU from Cory

One of the member in here MBworld (former MB tech) is doing installation for fairly good price.

if you want to know his info PM me.. since you have THREE MBs... it might be cool for you to have someone you can trust

He seems know what he is doing and he worked for MB for quite long time. : )

Plus, I am not interested to pay 150 per hour to dealr

I guess he will be my CLK's Mechanic.

I can't answer to that, but I had vibration for about almost a year, and nothing bad yet. : )

If its just engine and tranny mount, you might as just get it replaced.

So, I just got back... from work..

Sorry for the delay though

so it turned out great.. I still have check engine light on .. so I am sending my ECU tomorrow for Kleemann tune..

Man, It sounds 100 time better than how it was... before, it was settled with low v8 sound. but now is more like higher tone.. almost like M5.. you know how M5 sounds higher tone..

I really didn't had chance to push it hard + its raining..

but it does feel bit faster on the top end... but again.. it's no like having chipped on turbo cars..

I like the fact it is very quite on the cruise and louder on WOT..

I will write more detail tomorrow.. I gotta go to bed so I can work 5 am in the morning : )

Oh, I got new engine and tranny mount... engine was not cold yet, so I don't know for sure, but seems like its either gone or settled..

will see : )

My next project will be my valve cover gaskets and spark plug wires

So, Let me see where to start.

Mine is 2003, so I don't have resonator..
I kept stock secondary cat for the future, even though I have race cat in my office. I thought it would be nice to see the difference later on once I get bored with it and installing second cat is pretty small job.

I can't do any drivings today, since there is no ECU on my car, but I highly recommend to get it.. it sounds so much better than stock.

was it worth for $2500? I am not sure yet, but will see once I get my ECU back..

BeltFedBob, if you want to come around to check it out, you are more than welcome!!

I live in Edmonds and work in Seattle

I really hate to revive dead posts, but did this vibration issue get resolved? I have exactly the same symptoms now on my 2001 with 50k on it. Shop told me mounts and flex discs look fine...could use a second opinion I guess.

Vibe between 35-42, worse when car has been sitting a while or is cold and subdues to being very slight once warmed up...however, never completely goes away.

I've had that same vibration several times now in my CLK55. At around 35 to 44 MPH especially when cold. It has always been transition fluid level a bit low. I have a stripped bolt holding the pan cover that causes a slow leak an once in a while I go too long before checking it, the vibration reminds me. My car has a small rake to it due to bigger tires on back and that exasperates it the low level. It also makes it harder to get a correct reading on the dip stick. I have to find the correct grade to get the car level. Anyone have info on why the transmission vibrates when the level is low?

Often see these threads unresolved!..If vibration is through chassis, and engine/trans mounts/flexi's look good then check for..

Universal has lost it's grease and become notchy/stiff in normal position.

spline is dry and is no longer rotating parallel.

Centering bush at diff or trans has lost grease and is worn out.

Outside tolerance trans - prop - diff angles.

Cheers,

I never got anything fixed.
Vibration is still present but it's not bad enough for me to worry about it anymore. I had dealership check motor and tranny mounts at the last oil change and they said they were fine and didn't need replacing.

I'm not throwing money at this problem.

My clk55 prop shaft has wear in spline and locating bearings, also universal has lost grease and become stiff, it was in a hot climate at 145kkm's. Have had to order a new prop shaft complete.

Sure if you can put up with the vibration, this will eat away the life of other components also ie the centre bearing

I just solved my 38-mph shake after putting up with it since I bought the car 7 years ago. 5 years ago, a tire store noticed one of my wheels was out-of-round but after replacing wheels and tires, the 38-shake stayed. I recently took the car to a mechanic who replaced the severely cracked wheel bushings which was a time consuming job and that helped but didn't solve the shakes. Next up was to replace a transmission mount which was cracked. That finally solved the shakes.

Glad to hear you fixed it, with the trans mount cracked it may have dropped so the drive shaft would be out of alignment, this would cause vibration.

I still get a vibration in my car right at 40mph when I was at the MB dealership they said I have 2 count em 2 bent rims in the front! so I am like how in the hell and why at 40mph why does vibration start at 40 mph I have seen or read alot of post and basically 40 mph is the catalyst so I just want an answer that I can live with.
