Thinkin' about doing some upgrading on my CLK55

I did search and found some stuff but not everthing i wanted to know so... but I was thinking about doing some upgrading on my 2005 CLK55 AMG.
Not sure where to go though but leaning towards kleemann and I want to stay N/A. Just have a few questions..

1. Kleemann doesn't have a HP gains list from ecu and headers upgrade. Anyone know what the gains are?

2. I was looking for an exhaust but hard to find since i have dual exhaust and the only one i found was the eisenmann for like 2500 bucks. Any one ever did a custom exhaust with maybe magnaflow or anything?

3. Also, I see people putting pulleys on the n/a cars? Do they really help?

4. What do guy think is the best bang for the money on parts to HP?

Thanks,
Sonny

worth not worth it is all owners preference... modifying NA engine is not cheap looking in money vs hp gains... pm me if need info on performance mods... what is your goal ?

1. Kleemann headers + ECU good idea if you working on your exhaust I would do following... primary cats will have to be removed due to kleemann headers i would change secondary cats into high flow cats would take resonator off and add X pipe keep stock exhaust

2. Keep your stock exhaust AMG mufflers are free flowing there is no or very little hp gains in just changing mufflers if you whant more sounds then i guess you should look into it although your sound will be increased anyways if you do 1.

3. There is few pylleys availible Evosport underdrive pulley kit also AMS has lightweight crank pylley

4. PM me with your phone # too much to write...

hope it helps...

Don't take it personal but I've seen stock CLK55's running low 13s. All I would do to an NA car is custom intake/headers/exhaust/tune. You can go 12s with that. FI is the best way to go if the budget allows it though

Hi Sonny,

1) With Kleemann you have to get headers, software & primary cat delete all at once, so it hard to separate them into individual gains, but they do make gains of course as long as you don't mind the illegality issue of not running primary cats.

2) You already have CLK55 AMG, them muffler is pretty much 100% free flowing, you won't get any gains from catback its a complete waste of money. The real gains are in the headers & 2nd cats, nothing else needs to be touched (including resonator).

3)Yes pulleys help depending on what you are looking for. Accessory pulley kits help only with top end (most of gains are 5000rpm+). Crank pulleys help with low end to mid range torque & HP (most gains in 1000-5500rpm range). Both are 100% compatible with each other so you don't have to chose one or the other. You can have both setups, which many AMG owners end up doing for maximum power from the serpentine system. It's totally up to you which one you want to do first: If you want TQ AMS crank pulley is better, if you want more top end power accessory pulleys are better (but require some sacrifices in creature comforts.)

4). The best bang per buck mod on the NA 55s is high flow 2nd cats (or delete). Costs only $160 shipped + labor and is good for 10-13HP, 12-19TQ @ wheels depending on which route you take. High flow 2nd cats provide smoother exhaust note but you sacrifice a little bit of power compared to a full 2nd cat delete (although not THAT much). AMS recommends getting high flow cats instead of full delete both for legality reasons, as well as sound quality. With the headers, some AMG owners complain its a bit too much for a daily driver (especially with resonator deleted which is not recommended). This is ultimately your personal preference, but it seems the optimal setup is high flow headers + high flow 2nd cats with the rest of the system remaining OEM AMG.

There are plenty of ways to make good power on the NA 55s and you can easily improve your acceleration times with the right mod setup, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg like it used to. The AMS stage 2 performance pack (headers & pulley) is now only $1599 shipped, couple years ago that couldn't even buy you headers alone. Times are a changin'

Hope that helps,
~AMS~

Sure, headers in general change the sound of the car alot... but when you delete the primary cats they REALLY open up sound (sometimes a bit much for most). Going with a shorty with stock primaries & high flow 2nd cats gives you a good decent boost in sound and lots of power without going overboard for most who want it to still be perfectly daily drivable.
