Well Amigos,
Well Amigos,
My Brothers Friends At The BMW M-Power Forum Are Having A Rally For 1/4 Mile Runs At Englishtown Raceway Park April 11,2003 At 6pm SHARP. I Was Invited To Attend To See What The Dark Side ///AMG Can Do Against The Best 4 Door Sedan On The Planet
(I've Driven The M5 And I Agree - Truthfully, It Maybe My Next Car).
Anyway The Last Rally Was Canceled Due To Weather Conditions. I Sure Wish I Had The Timster's Super Charger
Oh Well The Beast Will Have To Do. On My AMP Monitor I Have Been averaging 5.0sec. - 0-62mph - Not Bad When Considering The Amount Of Wheel Spin The CLK55 Likes To Give.
I Have Found With The S03 The Grip Has Increased Two Fold. With My Zero To 60 Times I Should Do OK.
I Have Gathered Various Notes From A Previous Post On What To Do, I Listed Them Below:
1- Remove all items from the trunk - including spare
2- 1/4 tank of gas
3- lower tire pressure to 28 in rears ?
My take offs are good so I do feel confident. I will be representing The Dark Side -
Wondering Is I Should Bring My Sons Vader Mask....
Any comments regarding techniques are welcome -
P.S. I really don't consider it them against us, there truly all fine cars I Just want to have fun.... But I Would Be Nice If I Win A Couple Of Runs
:p

I think there's a way to program the ECU in these cars to get a few more HP's. It has something to do with the way the EPROM is configured in the on board computer. It's a mfg's MB setting so I believe you could be comfortable making the change. It does use more fuel however and you must make certain you run a specific grand of premium (93 octane I think). Because of the increased fuel burn it's not anything I would do to my daily (kinda) driver but may be a neat trick to use for a drag run. Take it to the dealer, make the change. Then back to the dealer a week later to have them change it back to normal. Might cost a few $'s (seems they always want $ whenever they hook up a machine) but it could be worth it. If you tell the Benz dealership that you are taking on some M5's they might just do it for free. PS - You might be surprised with how well your 55 does beyond the zero-to-60 times. The torque these things make really come into play between 80 and 110. You just might dust 'em. Let us know how it goes!

Cool! Sounds like a fun time will be had.
Based upon my experiences with the M cars, you shouldn't have any problems with them.
Did you really notice that much of a difference with the S03's? I'm getting ready to get some new rubber, and if they're that much stickier, I might have to slap a set of the 255's on the back! This thing is killing me off the line. I just can't get it to hook up, no matter what I try!!
Good luck, and get some videos if you can! Let us know how you do.

![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Well, was the event held? If so, how did it turn out? PS - I KILLED a lightning today! 0-to-80 so that gut on the other forum talking about lightnings is full of it (I even let the truck get the jump at the start). No contest....

Re: Well, ah h err..
Yup...stock to stock, the Lightning *will* get owned. They can mod 'em to be pretty quick with pulley changes, etc., but stock they're no match. I do wish that the CLK55 could be modded so easily and inexpensively, though!!

No Go :-(
Sorry, Amigo's I couldn't make it out to the track, My sister passed away on Wednesday - family first, toys second. I spoke with my brother (M5 guru) and we are going to set up our own little gathering at the Englishtown raceway park. Once I have solid plans, I will advise all, those who can make it should come.

Most recent tests were R&T and C&D this spring.
CLK55=4.9-5.0 0-60, 1/4 mile=13.6-13.8
****New E55 ran 0-60 in 4.2 sec, 0-100 9.2 (!), 1/4 mile 12.4 @ 116 mph [June 2003 Road & Track].

CLK320, ML320, 300TE
one more thing
So both run almost equally but the M5 won in slalom tests and was slightly faster. I think for modifying (at least from my perspective) a BMW is easier and cheaper to mod

Here is a comparison of M5 and CLK55:
It is from Auto Motor und Sport, one of the best European car mags. Fwiw, I've raced several M5s and even more of the new M3s, from both high speeds and low speeds, and haven't lost to one yet.
AMS test data for both:

clk55
Everybody seems to think that the M5 handles much better than the clk55. This is simply not true. Any comparison with a professional driver on a track testing both cars bears this out. The M5 while a wonderful car is a pig in the weight department. If you calculate the horsepower to weight ratio and torque to weight ratio you will see that it is very equal in acceleration. With the CLK having a sizeable edge in torque.
Most BMW people seem to think that their cars outhandle just about anything. I have found over the years that this is a perception problem. The bmw feels like it handles better and is maybe more rewarding to the regular Joe, but feel has nothing to do with results(for all the Liberals). Put the two cars in the hands of a skilled driver that is not as concerned with driving at 7/10th's or 8/10's but at 10/10th's and the Benz always holds its own.
I have taken my CLK55 to the drag strip 4 times and consistently run 13.3 to 13.4 @106 mph. No mods.
