Just got back from the dealer
I took my car in for an Alignment, Service "A" (11,000) and a few cell phone problems.
They fixed the cell phone (I think), did the Service "A" no charge.
I've changed the oil three times but the maintenance read out said service in 4200 miles. I told the service wrighter and he said the cars electronics can measure the viscosity of the oil!
Any body know how that's done?
The alignment was $96.00 not bad for a four wheel alignment.

The FSS sensor can not really read the viscosity. What the FSS oil sensor does is measure an electronic resistance from the oil. The resistance factor is then plugged into a equation comprising many other factors that the FSS system keeps track of. This is in a nut shell what he was probably trying to tell you but had no idea of. I'm sure MBTECH208 could also enlighten you on this in further detail.

The FSS determines service intervals based on time since last service ( or if it's the first service, time of manufacture), distance traveled, vehicle speed, coolant temperature, engine RPM, engine load, oil level, oil temp, and oil quality, and oil correction factor. It's a long complicated topic for me to give all the details, but basically if you change the oil without resetting the FSS counter, the system recognizes this clean fresh oil and extends the amount of time you have before a service is required. The maximum distance the system will allow you to go between service intervals is 18,600 miles.

This is asked many times. Do a search on resetting the FSS and you'll find the procedure.

4)PRESS & HOLD the reset button, turn back to position 2
5)keep PRESSING until beep & new miles appear.
What do you mean in #3? Isn't the ignition in position 1 already? That was done in your instruction #1???
