Springs for '01 CLK55

Hey guys,

I have a '01 CLK55 and wish to lower the stance of the car. I was wondering if you guys could recommend a brand? I want to stiffen the ride slightly...but mainly want it to lower the car. Here are the choices that I found:

1) H&R
2) Eibach
3) Brabus
4) Kleeman

Any others?

thanks,
mike

Exchanging just the springs is simply stupid unless you adjust the compression and rebound settings of the shocks as well (which is pretty tough unless you're an expert). So get a complete matched kit of springs, shocks and sway bars: I.e. the AMG Nuerburgring Kit or Carlsson's Bilsten / Eibach kit with thread chassis.

Do it right or don't do it at all unless you're just in for the looks.

I would recommend the Kleemann Speed Sensitive Suspension.
It's a complete package, designed for the CLK55. It lowers the car about 1 1/2 all around. It doesn't change the normal ride and provides you with track like performance when needed. With out having to live with the normal problems of a lowered vehicle, ride height, ruff ride, and vibration.
I'm very happy with it.

I'll never take my car to the track. Do you think I'll still need a complete suspension upgrade -- or is this "over-doing it"? To be honest, I'm lowering it for the looks...since I'm upgrading to 19'' wheels. I'm wondering if I upgrade just the springs, will it give me a harse ride?

not only will it give you a harsh ride, your shocks will be guaranteed to wear out within a year and half if not sooner.. you have a MB, treat it like one don't cut corners.

tirerack gives you a good technical insight about lowering

Thanks for the input guys! In this case, I'll be looking into the Kleeman Speed Sensitive Suspension. I'm thinking of installing this myself -- with the help of a friend whose very mechanically inclined. Is there a "Suspension upgrade DIY" for the CLK55 that can give us some pointers?

thanks,
mike

Congratulations. Please give us a full report once you have it installed.

Even if you install it yourself, remember that you will still need some help with the electronic alignment of the suspension from your Mercedes-Benz dealer afterwards.
