CLK55 car insurance advice
hi all,
I have AAA insurance in CA, and I'm happy with their service.
As for price, I'm happy with the pricing for our 2 main drivers. However, the price for our other 2k/yr wknd cars are VERY HIGH. Given that we're only driving it INSTEAD of our main cars, I would think the premium would be a fraction of the main. In our case, the premiums are almost the same as our main 2 cars. I've looked into raising the deductibles, but that didn't change the price much. I seem to recall there were special insurance that were really good at underwriting this type of insurace. Anyone care to shed light on this would be very appreciated.
P.S. This is for 2006 CLK55 cab with 82k miles and driving 2k miles/yr and $500 collision, $300k liability. AAA quoting $1,325/year - that's more than 50 cents/mile, and that's not counting the car's actual costs incl gas/repairs/depreciation.

Insurance prices depend a lot on the driver, location, and history with insurer. I pay a third of your rate and the CLK is a daily driver. I’ve been told by my agent it’s because I’ve been with the same company for over 25 years, have multiple car policies, a homeowner’s policy, and have made very few claims (a total of 3). My agent says my policy costs Allstate nothing, so the low rate is to prevent their customer (who is a source of “free money”) from going anywhere else.
If you have any kids who drive, you may wish to exclude them from policies involving certain cars.

That rate is about right for Fog City! Too many one way streets, too many Tourist drivers, and way to many uninsured motorist here in the City.
