I'd go for the 55, I wanted one but couldn't find one so I settled for my 500. The 550 is a little faster but I'd much rather have the AMG, as would most MBWorld members I imagine.

There are some reports that the 550 is faster stock than the 55..... so if you don't plan on mods, that might matter to you.
There are some body kits that will NOT work on the 55, but will work on the non-amg chassis. Kleemann kit comes to mind.
THe 550 has better heads with 1 extra valve than the 55.
IMHO I don't like the wood grain trim in some of the 550's..... and prefer the painted silver trim in the 55 (all pers taste).
The 55 has the amg suspension/brakes/exhaust, etc....... which you might like.
Both have single exhaust.
The 550 will have the better easier to use radio controls hvac controls.... if that matters.
Good luck, both good choices....... minus the wood trim diffs.
