CLK DTM replica kit, experiences?

Hi guys,

so in a couple of weeks time my clk55 arrives and I have been looking around for some mods. Gonna be a lot of carbon fibre on the inside and maybe a DTM replica kit on the outside. I have found some kits but most are incorrect or just plain ugly (INDEN, arches way to low and completely wrong front bumper). Now I came on a website of a UK seller that seems quite spot on, and I was wondering what you guys think and maybe you have experience with the company and its products?

I know these kits have been discussed many times, but I couldnt find anything about this particular one...

this is the kit, just find that the rear needs to sit a bit lower...

here is the website:

http://www.extreme-sportscars.com/dtm/gallery.html

and a youtube link of a finished DTM replica:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saIB6...pSo0ig&lf=plcp

sorry if this kit has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it

Plus a ton of cash to fit it. Look at the pic of the car with the raw kit taped on, see how much fender trimming needs to be done? Then glass the whole thing on, custom wheel femder liners, paint it, add some very wide wheel spacers, new rear exhaust and all the other stuff...

In the end that is going to be one very expensive kit to buy and properly install. Very odd that they just supply the front arches and not a whole new arched fender. I guess it makes it cheaper to sell but way more expensive to install.

***edit*** Check out the fake engine bs for the 430. Holy fail Batman.

Great find!!
Never heard of that company before.
True that the parts arent too expensive compared to what other companies charge but like kevwood said instsllation will not be cheap. Add to that there are other modifications and parts that need to be done in order to have the full kit look alike.
I say count 10k for the full package.

That sounds like a reasonable number to me, maybe even more Though considering the whole car may need to be repainted to match all the new body work unless the OEM paint is still in 'as new' condition.

Yeah it would seem like 10k+ with all that labour that will go into putting it together.

Still not a bad price considering the options

yep this is true, will probably cost an arm and a leg to fit, and shipping isn't cheap either. Another option is the MH-DEZENT black series line, which gives the car a more modern look, without going overboard with wider fenders etc.

What do you guys think of this, and also please your opinion about the front fenders, are they stock or wider? I can't make up my mind about it, even after many minutes of staring and comparing... the rear ones are stock, so I guess the front ones are too, but for some reason they seem to stick out a bit... opinions please!!!

this actually looks like the way to go for me.... probably.....maybe....lol....aarrgghhh can't make up my mind!! just think the stock bumper looks slightly outdated now with all the newer versions (clk63, black series, 06 onwards amg package...)

But I think this looks gorgeous... and I don't think it looks odd without wide fenders tbh...

why? I can Imagine why you would say that when someone with a clk200 putting an amg badge on it, In this case I'm changing a front bumper on my car to a look I like better than the standard 55 amg bumper. I'm not changing the car into a BS and I certainly wouldnt change my 55 badges to 63 badges. What you're saying is that when I put a carbon fibre trim in my clk I'm a poser too, because only the BS and the DTM have this?? Thats just bull****... Just because you own one (which I think is awesome, congrats with that) everyone that would add anything in some way that comes off a BS would make him a poser, and should not put anything on his car that LOOKS like yours??

Not trying to be a smartass here as a newbie, but I'm not agreeing with u on this one!!

I know the seller of the Black Series front end, the fenders on that car are flared and not included in the kit, it just comes with a BS front bumper cover and the CF side vents. Although the Black Series is my favorite car out there, that front end just doesn't look right on the regular 209 frame. I actually looked into it a while back but in the end I appreciate the OEM body kit styling on my car.

this actually makes sense and because it has widened flares I think I'll leave it... the last option for me would be a cf lip under by oem bumper as you have it, which makes a big difference as well...

true.... probably 10 times the price...

You can make that old 209 look pretty damn good with a few updates, I did the black roof, CF rear diffuser and front lip, Vorsteiner CF spoiler, updated tails and wheels. I get compliments on my car all the time and I still proudly say "it's just an old 500"

I think the 209 is a beautiful car, 350, 500, 55 or 63 - they all look great.

If I were to totally gut my car for track-only duty... I would consider the original DTM body kit. I like it the best. And try buying a used original w209 DTM for anything south of $200K!!!!!!! it is THE exclusive clk IMO.

Due to the rarity of the DTM, one can't just say 'it would be cheaper to buy a DTM' in this case. Nevertheless, 10K to change the look of an already astonishing car is just ridiculous.

100 made is not rare? HMM guess we each define 'rare' adversely.

bmstyle, read what I said. Perhaps you should do a bit of research.

I was pointing out to Betreza that the DTM is not THE exclusive clk as that title belongs to the GTR.

No i understand what you are saying. However, in your reply, you said it is not a "rare" CLK to which I (and you undoubtedly as well) find questionable at best.

Also, he did say the exclusive CLK "IMO" <--- to which neither you or I have control over.

Just because there's 25 GTRs compared to 100 DTMs, doesn't mean they are not rare.

We'll (I for sure) never own a DTM nor a GTR, but we can agree they are great cars
