Wink Daddy has a change of heart - ///AMG Over 996

My AMG brothers, as I posted early I was planning on moving on to a 996 platform (C4) but after two long test drives with both a C2 and C4 I decide to stick to my ///AMG - The 996's are great cars but in comparison to the CLK55 they fall shy of the power I have gotten use to (not to mention the comfort, safety and stereo) Both the C2 and C4 are fast cars, but they lack the torque of the beast, mainly in the upper speed ranges (80 - 120mph). My brother Mike and I went to a local dealer and test drove a C2 for comparison - on the way there, we drove my Beast and decided to perform a couple of test, Hard high speed braking, Roll on's at 80 - 130 - 90 - 140 etc. During the entire exercise Mike kept saying "Your going to miss this kind of power Rick, There is nothing like a V8, especially a AMG V8" and Dam he was right on the MONEY. When we drove the C2 if felt quick but lacked the launching power and mainly the roll on power of the ///AMG - Yes the handling is better and steering is perfect - Braking I would have to say is better in the AMG - but when it comes to engines - Hands down the Beast wins. With that said I decided to keep my beast (at least for now) until I can afford a 996 Turbo. At least for now I can hand with my brothers M5, the 996 didn't have a chance. In preparation of the selling of my Beast I sold my wheels to a friend of mine, and now I need a new pair of shoes for the beast (which I ordered already) I will post new pictures soon as they arrive. I never thought I would pass up a Porsche for a ///AMG but I have to be truthful to myself, the CLK55 is a hard coupe to pass up let alone beat.

I did the same comparsion and kept my CLK 55.

Sometimes You have to compare to get remembered what You have !

Why not a Turbo Cabrio I would take those over all. The C4 And C2 arent very incredibly fast cars they are nice but not the fastest compared to AMG.

id have to disagree with the w209. i think its very unique with its lack of a b-pillar. that makes the car what it is. i believe it is completely different then the 208. i had a w208 before, now i have the w209. ad its a completely different car IMO, a lot of refinements were made. the w208 is deffinatly a lot sportier so i can unerstand your reasoning for liking the w208 more. as far as the E55, why not get that? its in the same price bracket as the c2-c4, and your bros m5 will be having throuble keeping up with YOU.

996 TT - Not is the same price as CLK55

Brothers - I didn't look into the TURBO because of the cost of onwership, the cost is more than I care to spend at this point - Yes I too love the 966 TT or X50 but that is 100K + maybe one day, but I have two kids to get through college. Someday Yes, Someday indeed
