I couldn't agree with you more on this subject, Our appearance is kind of an esteem builder within our own mind in what we drive.
I would take the stares and chuckles in a pink on white C63,LOL . A man can marshal a convertible just as easily as a (smoking hot) woman on a Harley. What's the beef?
If you engage in a lifestyle around the car then you don't need a C63. The car should give you the satisfaction your enthusiasm requires, no matter who doesn't like clouds of tire smoke from a pink car.

Agreed. To say "driving a convertible is gay" is truly moronic. Convertibles are the epitome of cool. If they weren't Mercedes (SLS & SLR), Porsche (Carrera GT, 911), Ferrari (Spyders), Lamborghini, Aston Martin, MacLaren, etc. would never make them. Open air motoring is the most enjoyable experience on the road. Convertibles give you the sensation of being at one with nature. Wouldn't trade it for a coupe regardless of model.

The Miata is one of the most respected cars in autocross. Its all about power to weight. ratio. Some are supercharged or transplanted turbo wankel.
The Miata is a great graduation gift for your daughter as well.
I see more women in Phorche than Miata at autocross.
Go for it,
Gator

I suspect it took so many views for a response because it's a silly question. Cars don't have gender. But if you think a car looks "girly" if it's a convertible, I'd encourage you to reexamine that philosophy by doing some research. For example, the convertible '69 Pontiac GTO is about as far from "girly" as it gets. I have an '04 CLK55 cabrio that I bought last fall, and I couldn't care less than what some stranger thinks about it or me. I'd encourage you to think the same about your car(s). My car is an absolute blast to drive, and I live in Florida and have the top down a lot. From the side view, my model looks a little truncated with the top up, but putting the top down lengthens its look. And driving with the top down is as much fun on a clear warm night as it is on a cool one. And you can hear it a lot better with the top down.

Just my 2 cents
When I was shopping for my SL almost three years ago, I was arguing with the dealer about the price and I mention that if I couldn't get the SL at that price I would buy the SLK. The dealers answer was, "C'mon, that's a girls car!"
I got my 2006 SL500 somewhere else, at the price I wanted!

Just bought the CLK 63 of my dreams. Silver over black '08. Tinted windows but otherwise all original. Had almost forgotten about this thread... I would enjoy a test drive in a coupe to see what some folks feel so strongly about...or maybe just a tandem drive along the shore. I wonder which car would be turning more heads? Sociological experiments aside, I'm sure I'd be too busy enjoying the drive to notice.

Lol I kinda do feel in this model the CLK in convertible looks like a chick car and the coupe looks more masculine. I only feel that way with this model though. I had a convertible CLK350 and after I fixed it up realized it did look like a chick car. I put maybe 1300 miles on it and never drove it again. Got my C63. And was in love. Loved my SL too. I think I just don't like fabric convertibles. But my option is it looks like a chick car in convertible form. But that's my option after having the car. And you shouldn't care aslong as you like it . I iced out my mb steering wheel emblem and and clock in my S class. I like a little bling (don't all middle easterns) and I don't care what anyone thinks but most would probably call it gay or feminine.

You'll get more (female) *** in a Cab...and more (male) *** in your coupe. It's not rocket science.
The choice is yours. And thank you for letting the whole world know your choice.

Nice work guys - Jim500,redcab both landing C, CLK63's this month. The convertible has been an icon all over the world for years.
The Ford tin lizzy model T and many European auto manufacturers in the past have started out with top down steamers.
One can't argue with success when it comes down to a necessity combined with luxury.
The C, CLK63 is one of the best of the best.
Cheers, Gator

I don't care how fast it is, if it looks like a female car I wouldn't drive it. I would rather drive a Chevy Tahoe then a lot of gay looking cars. And any high end car should never have a rag top IMHO. Save those for theToyotas and American cars . And if you wanna argue weight savings, then they should be carbon fiber. I don't care how much weight it saves, I'm not ever gonna again pay for a high end car with a fabric top.

who wouldn't rather drive around with the top down on a sunny day, what am I missing? Is it "gay" to have your windows down too? Button that sucker up and take the summer heat like a manly man!
I'll gladly sacrifice some weight and rigidity (car, not me) for 100+ days of sunny side up driving. I get my CLK63 this week and I'm pretty sure I'll be driving around in a hat and coat with the top down. I'll never touch the performance limits of either the C or the CLK63 on the street.

You are on to something regarding the cloth roof. I don't expect to experience the CLK 63's performance limit, but I recognize that the coupe is faster by virtue of a hard top and no 155mph limiter. As I understand it, the cloth top was the reason for this controlled lower top speed. A top speed limit short of the car's potential is immasculating...but entirely irrelivant to me or my intended use for the car.
I'm at peace with my choice and do not crave any other car. I prefer the 4 seat option so the cloth roof is part of the deal. Were there a retractable hard top option, I would surely go that way. The key is massive power with the ability to enjoy open air. As for the performance concessions, I demonstrate my virility in less public ways.

I can respect your point of view. You feel the car is feminine and you won't own it. Be proud of your ability to own what you desire and never compromise your principles, no matter who disagrees. I for one would love to see some pics of your idea of the right car.

I don't let other people's jealousy or opinions govern me... Most people say W208's are chick cars.... I could care less, I've always loved them, that's why I drive one. People who compliment me on my W208 talk about how W209's are "too feminine"... Doesn't mean crap to my, I'm still buying one next. The only cars that scream chick to me are Fiat 500's, Beetle's, and Jetta's.... Jetta's are on the line, because I've seen some sick jetta's.... I've seen some sick beetle S's too... It doesn't matter dude, it's a ridiculously quick car, that's comfortable, doesn't have all the ABC garbage, and isn't as plain Jane as a C55 or C63. Drive it, if you like driving it, buy it.

I couldn't be more fortunate to be here with this ownership opportunity. Those who tease about the looks of the car only remind me of the confidence I feel about its style. There is no magic one size fits all...
