Talking AMG steering wheel will have SL 55 like gearshift buttons

The CLK 55 AMG is the perfect synthesis of sportiness and individual style both inside and out. From the ergonomically shaped AMG sport seating system with multi-contour seats featuring a combination of nappa and nubuk leather to the special aluminum AMG trim, the AMG sports steering wheel with gearshift buttons, the new AMG instrument panel and AMG door sills, the interior of the CLK 55 AMG satisfies even the most discerning tastes.

Typical AMG styling (front apron, side skirts, rear apron) and the AMG trailing edge are a perfect and harmonic combination of striking design and functional clarity. 18" AMG light alloy wheels with the new dual-spoked design and an AMG exhaust system with dual tailpipes round out the exceptional appearance of this exclusive automobile.

Interesting that AMG has posted the details of the new CLK55 on their site before the new E55...
Here is a pic of the new DTM car:

CLK55 AMG

I think the car will grow on me after a little while. I just not happy with them using the C32/SLK32 18" wheels. That is the only part of the car that I am worried about.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
Weight of new 2003 CLK55 AMG Coupe increased by 135 kg or 300 pounds:

1,715 kg v 1,580 kg for the current 2002 CLK55 AMG Coupe.

These additional 300 pounds explain why the acceleration from 0-60 mph is only 4.9 seconds, identical to that of the current CLK55, despite the additional 20 HPs. :o

Yup, Karl; the weight figure is the first thing that caught my eye as we discussed this issue in an earlier thread, as I recall. More horsepower is always great, but not if we're "penalized" with a corresponding hike in weight.... I also saw that the redline was raised to 6700 (?) with a hike of half a point in compression to 11:1. A lot of good THAT will do for us in California, stuck with 91 Octane, oxygenated crap. I think the ECU will compensate for the lack of spunk in our gas by backing off the timing, essentially mitigating the increase in horsepower somewhat. Since the new AMG 55 won't be here till '03 as an "04 model, I'll just have to wait and see how this redesign pans out during the first year. I'll withhold major criticism till then.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
Brian:

That Nabzy sure knows how to get heads-up info! I must say, that the more Nabzy produces pix and details getting closer to the real thing, the more I ... nah,- got to feel it, see it, touch it.

More will be forthcoming at the Geneva Auto Show, which opens this Thursday. I'm anxious to hear, what the press has to say about the baby CLK.

But then again, who does not like babies?

weight

It seems that the weight might be less then we think. you said the weight for the new CLK55AMG is 1715kg. However if you look that weight is with a 68kg driver and 7kg of luggage thus the weight of only the car is 3608lb or 1640kg. just my 2 cents

Yeah, Nabzy's doing a great job with the info. Though I KNOW there's a hidden agenda....He must decide NOW as to wether or not to place his order as he attempts to continue his unbroken reign as the mighty annual "CLK GOD"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talking Brian your a smart man

Yes I am number two at a large dealer here in mass, he allocates me a slot without having me put down a deposit so it doesnt hurt...thinking CLK 55 charcoal/merlot interior all options except distronic which I think is useless....but here is the dilemma I face....I know if I do this I will want the 55 cab the year after...which means loosing money on the coupe, long gone are the days where I drove my CLK 430 cab for a full year had 17k miles on it and sold it back to the dealer for what I bought it for.....thus, I am thinking of picking up an SL 500 this fall instead, and being done with it all....the SL 55 is out of my price range for what I want to spend on a car....

the more and more I see of the new CLK 55 the more I am liking it.....the only downer that I can see is that they will be using the old comand CD based system as opposed to the DVD one that will find its way into the high end models....but having bi-xenons, keyless go etc will be nice...plus I like the AMG body work, interior, engine, steering wheel with buttons etc.....

so I am thinking of which way to go...if I know I can live with the coupe and not have the urge to trade when time comes I may go the clk 55 route....otherwise the SL route...

My thoughts are MBZ is in a "transitional" phase and the speculation as to the specs of each new AMG model makes the decision as to which model to purchase increasingly more difficult.
I say, just be happy that we can afford to have "problems" as serious as this....
