Question Advances in tire tech: New tires for W208?

My 2002 W208 CLK55 cabriolet is coming up on 20,000 miles in the next few months

It still has the original stock 225/45ZR17 and 245/40ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires on it. There is some tread left but I'm far more concerned about the tiny thin hairline cracks I'm seeing. (Especially at 120 mph )

I figure in the last decade there's got to have been some advances in tire technology beyond the original Pilot Sports - right?

What are people putting their W208s on nowadays? Any non-Michelins? Pirelli P Zeros? Any non-traditional makes like, say, Falken, Toyo etc.?

Thanks Chappy. I'm looking on Tire Rack and I'm only seeing

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 (W- or Y-Speed Rated)

come up in the search on my vehicle. No PS2 or PS2 ZP.

I looked closer and it looks to me like the PS2/PS2 ZP isn't made in the OEM 225/45ZR17 & 245/40ZR17 sizes - I'd either have to go to larger rear tires (like 255/40ZR17) or larger 18" rims all around instead. Am I right??

Super Sport would be my pick then. I run 18s f/r and they still make thr PS2 in my sizing (last I checked). I have PS2s on now, but my next set will be Super Sports. I have Super Sports on my W124 wagon and really like them.

Ah, therein lies the rub - you already have 18 inch wheels. I wasn't planning on a wholescale wheel change along with the new tires

I'll keep looking (more suggestions welcome!) but probably give the Super Sports a whirl.

Sweet! Doing some searching got me a line on a couple replacement 17" AMG Type III wheels for my car, too
