W209 CLK AGM vs. Wet Cell Replacement Battery

Spent numerous hours over the weekend perusing MBWorld trying to find the bottom line on a replacement battery for the w209 CLK55.

I've got a WalMart close by and they've got the EverStart Maxx H80 on hand.

So other than potential for leakage and maintenance is there an advantage to going with an AGM, as long as it meets or exceeds OEM power requirements?

Last, what make and model AGM is an exact fit?

Thanks!

AGM should be lighter. Usually AGM batteries are smaller than OEM as well. Braille sells them in different weights. Mine died sitting in the basement for a couple years lol

Thanks my friend. I'll look Braille up, but if you know of a local distributor...

So how's it going with pulling your engine??

Thanks Ahmad - I'll look them up online. I'll get with you offline at some point. Interested in what goes in to a rebuild after you have a piston seize in the cylinder.

AGMs, when they get low, very low on volts...like almost dead; they can be usually fully re-charged.

Once a 'regular' battery gets below 11 volts, it's usually all done and won't come back on charge.

You are too far away.... but I made arrangements thru my local dealer here in Hartford to get OEM group 49/ H8 batteries from MB for only 131$ including tax. My last group 49/H8 lasted 10 years (with a trickle charger over the 4-5 winter months while in storage). The list price was 167$ as of last week. I know some other MB dealers around here are close to 200$ for an H8.

Anyway....best of luck with whatever you decide on getting.

Don't know about the OEM H8. I know the EverStart Maxx H8 Automotive Battery is a wet cell. I ended up purchasing the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM. Both fit the W209 CLK, but chose to go with an AGM that exceeded minimum power requirements.

We never consider something so simple as a battery to search on threads but for trunk mounted batteries it is worth it.
My other benz were under the hood out of reach of many electronic components required to keep things working and the fumes were properly vented to tubing in the wheel well.
I learned the hard way after a hasty local auto parts store purchase. The fumes worked hard on one of my lap top cases and fluke meters located in the trunk. Fortunately I caught it quick and kept it under control.
Go for a sealed battery when possible!!!

FYI - Ended up going with the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM Battery. Plug & Play - no problems. Had my local Indie shop install and run a star check following. No problems, everything reset perfectly.

vent or not

Today's replacement Interstate Battery is green and seems to have no vent hole for the tube to plug into. Should I be concerned? Is it a fitment issue, or do batteries nowadays have no need to vent?
The clk55 amg is from 2001.
