pre-facelift mods!

hi,

i'm looking to install an old e55/c43 steering wheel, c43 white instrument cluster, and old school dials for AC control. does anyone have info on this please? even better any recommendations for shop in NY to get all work done. As you can guess its purely to change the look, i prefer the older look.

thanks in advance!

on separate note, i will be installing roll cage in my track car project really soon. delaying my track season but super excited to finally getting it done!

I tried to do the dials for Climate control but unfortunately it wont work because you will need some vacuum lines and so on. the CLKs in UK came with the old school dials on the climate control but their set up is different, ours is all electrical. as far as the steering wheel goes yes you can easily do that you will have to use the existing clock spring because the Turn rate sensor is attached to the clock spring but your existing stuff will work just buy the steering wheel and airbag that's all but if you are talking about older E class steering wheels without steering wheel controls for stereo.... then you will leave the wires unplugged behind the airbag and you wont have those controls. The C43 cluster will also be plug and play. you can use the preface lift on newer ME2.8 cars and you can use newer clusters on ME2.0 cars I have done both ways before. The C43 cluster had some stuff that the CLKs don't and also the ME2.8 has some stuff that wasn't available on the C43 so you will have to play with the options but the basics such as speedo, rpm, gas, water,... will work fine. another option you have which might work even better is to buy a prefacelift CLK cluster from 98-2000 and buy the C43 cluster and take the gauge faces and needles and put them on the CLK cluster and install it in the car. because the W202 c43 cluster will more than likely need coding to read the stuff right such as the Gas gauge which might work backwards. but the CLK cluster is already perfectly coded to the car and will work right away. How ever remember by doing this you will loose the center screen which you make many menu changes from and also the gear indicator.

Thanks greatly appreciate info. I found great company in the uk that will fix my current instrument cluster and change out face/needles to c43 style.

I have to say I'm greatly disappointed on ac controls, I think dials look so much sportier!

I bought an older e55/c43 steering wheels without buttons, I plan to use existing phone/volume lines for paddle shifters. I'm currently using transmitter setup. It has been good but I want to do it "right" way. It's been long process but getting close to finally setting up car the way I want it. 2005 s55 trans is going. In next week with hopefully slr/dtm tcu mapping (thanks to Fabian for help). Also getting carlsson style cage put on next month with sunroof delete. Excited just thinking about it
