Does the w209 trunk fling open?
Is this normal? I feel like it can't be good over time and the first time I opened it, it nearly took my nose off

It is suppose to Ambit.
But with worn springs it wont happen. I realised from the sometime after of ownership o the car that it is suppose to function in that manner. I played with mine by rocking it almost close and then open a couple times. Locked it then pressed the key fob button and voila, it works. But then it doesn't again after the next day. Best repair for this is to remove the springs from the arms that support the boot lid, compress them in a vice or something similar just a tad bit. Then reinstall and next time you open, it should be the same.

Just warn others and yourself. I priced new springs from agents and I was like, "what the... I don't need this springs when I can compress mine."
For what its worth, my vrou's aunt owns a W204 and it works the same.

All you need to do is remove the plastic trim around the support arms. Fight a lil with a long nose plier I suppose and the spring will be out but mind it could be projectile. And then ![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)

away lol. After you compress it a tad bit they should be fine. I am yet to do mine. Wife just doesn't allow me time to play with the car as it takes up most of my time

As Insame1 mentioned. I did that Friday night. Finger nail got screwed a bit. All you need is patience, a narrow flat screw driver and you can do this. You need to remove the round clips first starting with the two on either side behind the tail lights on the inside of the boot. Then remove the two square clips you will find on the cover of the inside of the boot. 2 on either side. Then remove the round clips that are below the arms that support the boot. You don't need to remove the plastic cover around the boot arms. Then gently pull on the cover and move it out of way. Be gentle with is as you don't want to bend them too much to the point where they are creased. Then simply grab the rear of the spring with one hand and use the other hand to grab the centre section of the spring and pull gently but tightly backwards and hook it to the next hole.
Mine didn't work on the 2nd hole either so I pulled it a bit more and fitted it to the 3rd hole. Now it functions just as it should.
