W208 CLK new front shocks too short. Help
Greetings,
Just had a bunch of work done on my 2002 CLK55. New front springs and shocks all around were a couple of the things on tap.
I bought Sachs OE replacement front shocks from Tirerack on closeout. These are the shocks -
https://www.tirerack.com/suspension/...2&autoModClar=
My mechanic calls to say they are 2 inches shorter than the old ones on the car. He says he can't bolt them up, the car will bottom out. This makes no sense to me. I called Tirerack and emailed them a pic (see below) and they said.
"The 553-721 is the correct part number for this application and MMY. This is a mono-tube damper and it's quite possible the internal rebound bump stops in the old dampers are worn out and that's why they are extending further than the new dampers. Sachs does not list the overall dimensions but based on the customer photos this appears to be the correct length and it matches the Sachs photos."
I don't get this? My mechanic is solid and they do shocks all the time. Could the new springs be the culprit? Is the Tirerack guy blowing smoke. I am completely confused.
thanks for any input!
