Front wheel bearing noise - possible replacement

My 2002 CLK 55 started to have this humming, drone like sound coming out of the front wheels after about 40 mph and continuing getting louder as the speed increases.
I thought at first it was the tires so I had 2 extra rims with tires and put it in the front. Same situation.
I believe its the front bearing and I was wondering if anyone has change these and if it is a difficult or costly job. Not sure the bearings come out or its the entire hub assembly that has to be replaced.
I'd appreciate any input
Thanks
Joe

Yes they are normal taper roller bearings and the actual bearings come out easy. Its getting the old races out of the hub that would be difficult for a non mechanic type. You could always have an auto machine shop do the race replacement for you. Then you pack the grease in the new ones and install them and do the adjustment. The adjustment if very critical and is best done with a dial indicator.
If its something your not comfortable doing its then best left to someone that knows how to.
