W209 CLK55 - topside oil change

I am thinking of doing interim oil changes using a topside oil extractor, mainly to avoid spillages and the resultant clean up.

Is there a good place to remove oil from, using a suction method? I don’t see a dipstick.

I haven't done it yet, but I'm just planning on using the oil fill location.

I doubt you could get to the sump from there, assuming you are talking about the filler cap.

Yeah, not sure. Other location would be the dipstick (red cap is next to the firewall).

Here's a thread at the other forum about it - W209, not CLK 55 specific.

I think the red cap may be for checking transmission oil.

is that correct or have I got that the wrong way around?

I only do top side changes. The dip stick tube is where you should pull from.

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not but it is on the passenger side by the firewall.

Definitely not sarcasm, apologies if it read that way.

i remember topping up transmission fluid in that vicinity a couple of years ago (a leak resolved with a new gasket) . When I looked at it recently I got the dipstick tube confused for the fill tube for the transmission. The lack of a dipstick had me thinking there was no tube.

It's by choice for those who have an extractor and/or don't want to lay on the garage floor to drain the oil.

Or are really talented at always missing the drain pan with the first few ounces of oil. <this guy>

The drain plug does not extract the same amount of oil because of the lip ont the plug threads.
