Clk430
Running standalone on clk55 engine

Hi guys, i own a w208 clk430 with a clk55 engine on it,
-Currently its running on the 430 ecu with a 55 tune file

The car is slower then a minivan and the tune doesn't seem to have worked and im tired of spending useless money on tunes and mechanical shops.

Now i have a lot of experience in standalones i can go megasquirt or linkg4 on this thing but i lake the knowledge on the benz wiring and ecu configuration and communication of the ecu to esp to abs and all that

Has anyone run a standalone on these things and still have the esp and abs running? Is it possible?

And what do i need to make it work?

Thanks in advance for your info🙏🏻

I'm in the process of converting my 2002 CLK55 over to a Holley Dominator EFI. I don't think you are going to have much luck keeping things like ESP, ABS, the factory TCU, or even the factory key. My scenario is very specific; I'm building a drag car so I don't car about all of those niceties. I'm treating this like it was a 1960's muscle car.

You can read more about it at StumptownBenz if you are interested.

I am working on install of ECU piggyback system that retains all factory ECU and CEL.

Any custom tuning can come from the unit to spark and fuel.

Sounds like you are near limp mode and a component is bad like MAF or TPS.
Get it scanned or find someone with STAR.
That swap should work.

Best, Gator

Similar thing happened to a guy with a c43. ran a 55 car tune and car performed slower than with the stock c43 tune.

Have you tried just running it with a factory clk430 tune??

Engine swap

I have never swapped engines or tunes.
So I can't answer that.
The tune file may have had more than a fuel and timing map. Like specific ECU files for gear and chassis.
It may take STAR to variant code the swap.
Good luck

most places would charge thousands for setting up a standalone on an MB and NOTHING in the entire car will work as they are all connected on the can network. Ive only ever seen 1 RACE car that wasnt on stock electronics due to this. You could NOT run the auto trans with it either, as they work in tandem, and as previously mentioned the Key(so dont bother)

I cant tell you what you did wrong on your swap, BUT the 55 has a few different sensors and believe you are supposed to swap just the long block to make that work properly.(im no expert)

1998 C43 w/ 55 swap Wavetrac LSD and 6-Speed manual
Don't know specifics about the CLK430. Does it have the ME2.0 ECU?

I have a 1998 C43 with a 2002 CLK55 engine. I used the C43 engine wiring harness and throttle body on the 55 motor. I think there was one other sensor I had to swap over as well b/c of the plugs being different - but my memory could be off. The ECU is my original ME2.0 that came with the car - no tune or anything. Works out of the gate perfectly.

It could be as simple as a bad sensor or wiring. Knock sensors, camshaft, crank, etc - check them all. Double check each and every connector for bad pins, corrosion etc. If these all check out - your ECU is likely the problem.

(If anybody needs the CLK55 wiring harness or throttle body - send a PM. Also have upper/lower oil pans and a bunch of other M113 bits that would fit CLK55s.)

GatorMB, did you end up intalling this ECU piggyback? If you did , how did it work out

Piggyback ECU

I have not installed the unit yet but prepared my NA harness for it.
Been a rough year for me having to put it last on the Todo list. I'm in the middle of putting headers and a 3" exhaust system in.
Not to hijack ops thread.
With all the caos this year I aquired a m113k harness from blackbenzz and a ECU for m113k from a sl55 from sir boost alot.
Still going to put the piggyback ECU though for experiment. A hunch says on the fly tuning might just stay.
Cheers Gator
