Your not paying for the car, your paying for...
$140K for essentially a standard 2001 CLK55 with recaro seats that was manufactured in 1999. It's obvious your not paying for the car but rather the "history" of the car. In my mind it's not worth it but you know that somewhere out there is someone who would be willing to buy it.

There's quite a bit more to that car than just a couple of Recaro Seats and some pretty interior trim. It's amazing what AMG hides underneath such familiar skin.
But you are quite right, it's more the provenance of such a car that would drive it's value. Additionally, AMG pace cars are things that do not make it to the outside world all that often. There was one gentleman in Japan who managed to snag himself a recent safety spec car...but that's only after he convinced AMG that since he owns a race track, he won't have to worry about "legalizing" the car.
