Can you speak for all BMW drivers? You are very much more informed only because you own a BMW and work for MB. That doesnt mean that BMW owners all the sudden know a lot about MB.

Clk is not for the track. Car is not balanced at all, will be very hard to drive. The M3 will smoke the **** out of it. Apples and Oranges. M3 is basically for the track and clk is for freeway.

to sum it up
am an amg fan and bmw fan..
a week a go i raced a w209 clk55 ... on the highway they are dead equal same pace... on next traffic using launch control i was in front half a car length...and stayed the same .. the performance of both car is the same ,,,
but on track i think the m3 is much better from the suspension settings and the smg

But it's a common thought amongst many BMW owners that their cars are faster than anything else. Just because they do not know anything about Merc.. sadly. They don't even bother reading about them because they think it's an old mans car and it can't be fast anyway.

2003 BMW M3 convertible
![Exclamation](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon4.gif)
I own a 2003 M3, and test drove a 2004 CLK 55 today, The CLK55 is hot, but you really dont feel the low end acceleration, but the midrange torque is hot, like from 50mph on up, but my M3 is fast, in low range, mid and high, the CLK55 is only good mid & high, I think my M3 is much faster and its a convertible.

In a drag race, SMG is slower than a standard 6 speed. US spec cars only allow the car to launch at 1800 rpms. The optimum launch rpm for the S54 is about 4-5000 rpm. In a drag race or red light to red light, with a 6 speed and a good driver, the M3 coupe (Cabs are pigs) will win hands down. (you really have to know what you are doing to get ahead, get limited wheel spin, perfeft launch etc) Im not talking bus lengths, but it will win. From a stop to 1/4 mile the M3 will edge the MB's 5.5L out. From a fwy roll, lets say anything from 70-80+ to top speed, the M3 will only see the CLK's rear end. It's amazing on how hard the CLK55 pulls away from the S54 at higher fwy speeds.
I have tested this time and time again. If you choke on the launch, the CLK will win. (you must dump the clutch at 4K rpm to win) If I nail it and dont mind abusing the clutch/drivetrain a little bit, all the MB sees is the ///M's quad tips.

[QUOTE=Frank Wiesmann]
even in europe, W208 CLK55's were sold in from september 1999 as model year 2000 cars!

So bottom line,
E46 M3 6 MT Vs CLK55 (w209):
If drag, M3 wins till 1/4mile then the CLK equals and passes...
If on the high way CLk55 wins any way...
E46 SMG Vs CLK55 (w209)
CLK wins any way!!
Is that the final situation?

0-60 not really true if CLK has light forged wheel with 19's with low profile tires. I am consistantly getting 4.83-5 with my W209 CLK55 with the setting I mentioned above. CLK drivers need to know how to dirve without wheel spin tho then it's no match.
