W209 CLK55 Throttle Response

This car has plenty of power for me but the throttle response is seriously lacking at times. Are there any good "canned" tune options, or is my best bet getting something like a Sprint Booster? Only thing I've been able to find so far is the OETuning tune, but that seems to be for W208 only.

I have the Sprint Booster V3; it works great! You can select the throttle response that suites your mood. No BS, it truly transforms the car. I wish I had gotten it earlier as the car is so much more fun to drive.

As above , now safer pulling out in traffic , it transforms the first quarter of pedal movement.

For a vehicle with a big delay there is only one setting...

Thanks both of you! Sounds like I'm going to have to pick one up.

Does anyone know of any 'canned' tune options similar to OETuning for the W209, or would I be looking at custom tuning if I decide to add headers?

MB’s of all kinds.
Get a ECU Tune. I did it to my CLK55 and it worked very well. The car wakes up! In fact all CLK’s have this issue. Did it to my CLK320 and CLK350 as well. I went with a Kleemann tune and have been very satisfied.

Do you have a W208 or 209? If 209, which tune is available? Don’t see any, only see for 208. I know similar M113 engine as the W208 but electronic tunes can be very specific.

Not all remaps improve on that built in delay as it has to then have some developer coding to the throttle response .

If performed that then leaves you with just one setting , wheras SB has 18 , plus 3 valet modes ( limits power ) and a pedal lock ( extra layer of security ) .

I would seriously try before a tune as you probably will feel it doesn't need one after .

..and no need to remove and mail-out your ECU, then waiting. More hp is a good thing, so I may explore over the winter.

Btw, I’m using SB race mode 9 about 90% of the time, especially on windy back roads; oh and using paddle shifters (installed a later model E55 steering wheel) about 75% of the time. SB doesn’t make the shifting faster, it’s just the car feels much sportier, reacts instantly after the shift occurs. Careful in reverse. Also, while in comfort mode just cruising about, highway, the car is livelier with new found “guts”.

$300 and <15 minutes install!

Ended up ordering a tune from OETuning during the 4th of July sale. No mailing in of the ECU, sounds like it will all be done through a handheld (MyGenius). Will update with some results after that's done.

Reporting back...WOW what a difference the tune made. Noticeable increase in power and torque. Throttle response is improved enough that I don't feel like I need the sprint booster on top. Seems to be the perfect balance where if you want to move normally in traffic it still feels completely civilized with a light touch...but the second you go near opening it up it takes off like an AMG should. Should've felt like this from the factory.

For the price I paid ($350 for the custom tune + MyGenius) I'm very happy with the outcome. OETuning was super responsive and easy to work with.

Did you get stage 1 or 2? Do you feel a lot more midrange pull? The Sprint Booster gets me off the line like a pro stocker, but the car is a little flat in the mid range / middle gears. The engine’s getting up there in miles, so would rather not need to stay in higher rpm’s for good pull.

Tune made a huge difference in the mid-range for me. You know that quick 3/4 throttle jab from a roll when you want to feel some power but don't want to go all out? Night and day difference. I also felt a pretty big difference in the low end, but you might not notice that as much since you already have the SB.

Not sure on the stage 1/2 - just bought the tune from the sale ad which didn't specify a stage.

OK, so finished loading the OE Tuner software tonight and took it for a quick test drive. Happy to say that the car does feel stronger in the mid-range which is what I was hoping.

I tested with the Sprint Booster off and then with it on the various settings, I honestly am glad I got both. With the SB off, the car does have a stronger pull over 2,500 RPM’s in say 3rd and 4th gear; definitely has more guts. But w/ the SB on Race 9 setting along with the tune, the car has instant power, really feels like it has another 100+ lb-ft of pull. I had a lot of fun hitting the local country back roads, and btw, in manual shift. I had to rein myself in; getting dark, deer about.👍

Awesome!! Glad it gave you what you wanted as well. Such a night and day difference imo. Thinking of doing headers over the winter to open it up a bit more but not sure yet.

Curious - do you also notice a big difference in your performance based on the weather? Usually when I’m out it’s high 80s to low 90s. Finally got to take it out last night when it was cool with no humidity. Honestly felt like it would’ve picked up half a second in the quarter mile. Didn’t expect such a wild difference on an NA car.

These cars are definitely affected by weather conditions. Low 70’s low humidity is the sweet spot for mine, though it seems more sensitive to temps than humidity. It was not very happy with me today in 95 deg 60% humidity so with the AC on.

Definitely get the Sprint Booster first before investing in headers. I stand by my previous comment: best bang for the buck. Given a choice between the SB and the tune, the SB on its own made a much more drastic difference.

You guys have me thinking about getting the Sprint Booster. The throttle lag drives me nuts.

Not to derail the thread but has anyone put any thought in the transmission....for the 722.6 anyway? I've been thinking about a valve body upgrade. I heard about VRPspeed through a YouTube vid and I'm kicking around the idea of giving it a shot to improve the shifting. I was initially looking at the ones offered by southernhotrod.com but heard the deceleration downshifts were on the harsh side.
