..............I second what chappy said. I was unable to get my car to hook up and my best time was my first run. Car was in winter mode mode and started from second gear and managed 13.2. After that, my car (E55K S7) would spin all the way to 1/8 mark and would continued spinning and would start fish tailing sideways each time unless I took my foot off the pedal. This is even with the BF Drag Radials. The G55K did a respectable 13.8 under those conditions. Racing had to be stopped a few times due to antifreeze on the track. All in all, it was fun to see everyone.

Did he start in 1st or 2nd? Those have an extra short 1st... wondering if it should be skipped.

No, it should not. The overal ratio in 1st is quite steep but not so much as the M3 or other cars like the Ferrari 360.

CoolcarlskiC43.....you are safe.....for now :v :p

Oh, just a note that at the end of the 1/4, I was still in 3rd gear.
I'll come and drive your car for you if you want! LOL! Just kiddin. You'll definitely get there. How did you launch your car and what were your mph and 60 ft #'s?

Slips are at home, along with some pics that hellcat and I took. I'll gather them up and post tonight if I've got time.

Bottom line....I realized when traction was such an issue as the day wore on: Antifreeze on the track. The track had to be closed at least twice to mop up antifreeze on the starting line.

Now its the mid atlantics turn for a shootout! We will be renting out the track either on Nov. 4th or the 11th. If everything goes right this event will be amazing. The new Z06 as well as the new M5 (if it arrives in time) will be there as well as a full kleemann E55 and many other modded E55's. Last time we went out the best time was from a W211 E55 modded by evopsort (11.88 or something) and second went to the kleemann W211 E55 (11.9 or something). Since then the evo has had major mechanical problems (you all know who I'm talking about) and the Kleemann has added kleemann water pump and LSD. The throttle body is on order but I dont know if it will be here on time. There also might be an SL65 (stock) but we'll see. Thise interested in coming should either contact me or 04E55AMG. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aside from the loss of traction, the car looks pretty consistent. Reaction times are another story (assuming that is a zero tree)!

Hi guys, I have a '98 model W210 E55 and managed a personal best of 13.224sec at 107.32mph. My car's basically stock except for K&N air filters and i ran with a half tank of 98RON fuel with octane booster added. Back seats, spare tire plus jack were also removed.
This was done two days ago on Weds Oct 16th at WSID, Sydney, Australia. (Elevation is 70m or 230 feet above sea level) Conditions was as follows ....

Time 5.58pm
Air Temp: 17 degrees Celcius (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit)
Relative humidity : 82
Absolute Barometer : 30.00
Track temp : 29 degrees Celcius (84.2 degrees Fahrenheit)

Here is the break up of my run :

R/T : 0.181
60: 2.035
330: 5.632
660: 8.573
mph: 82.22
1000: 11.105
ET: 13.224
MPH: 107.32

I was more than happy with the results as my previous best at this dragstrip 2-3 weeks prior was a 13.339 sec at 104.11 mph (60 foot time was 2.053 for that run and conditions were : Air temp 15 degrees C, Rel humidity 56%, track temp 26 degrees C ).

So the octane booster and seat removal seemed to help somewhat.Temperature as well I guess.

There is a big contrast in your mph.107 vs 104 is pretty fast. The 60 ft is the same almost. What do you attribute to the higher mph? Nice #'s.

Hi Fella's,

I was wondering what diff ratio's you are running in both these cars. I have noticed that some US spec MB have different diff ratio's to us here in Australia.

Also, didn't the earlier model CLK55 have diff ratio of 2.82 and the current model has 3.06?

The CLK55 according to published #'s still has the 2.82 diff while the C55 has 3.06 same as my W202 C43/55.

I don't know...I guess it's the temp on the night and weight of the car..... a cool night plus improved power to weight ratio of car = faster ET and higher trap speed....I did have the car washed to help with aerodynamics if that helps ?!

Well the '98 E55 runs a 2.82 ratio diff. The 3.06 that others mention on here would probably give it better acceleration time and could possibly bring my times into the high 12s but would more than likely need drag radials. A 3.06 diff in the W210 E55 would have esp lights flickering like crazy with any heavy stomp of the gas pedal !

HI coolcarlskiC43,

Our new CLK55 AMG is arriving in 2 weeks and has a diff ratio of 3.06. Also I noticed on the MB USA website that the CLK55 AMG 2006 Convertible is runing 3.06 as well.

A ratio of 3.06 would be alot better for the 1/4 mile or 0-100 than 2.82 ratio?

It is interesting to find out that the CLK55 2004 & 2005 had diff ratio's of 2.82, this means the new 2006 model is faster 0-60, 0-100. If you look at the MB website I have noticed it now states the CLK55 AMG 2006 Convertible now runs at 5.2 whereas it used to say 5.4, 5.2 is the coupe times.

You would also assume that they have made changes to the ESP & Gearbox software to accommodation the new diff?

If this is correct then this simple ratio change to the new 2006 model now make all the previous CLK55 models slower, so any mods you make to the prevoius model CLK55 will have to be a little more just to be able to keep up.

Looks like a lot or 2003, 2004, 2005 CLK55 owner are going to be looking for 3.06 diffs, anyone for a group buy?

The answer is a definitive yes. See this analysis:
http://www.club202.com/forums/showth...2660#post72660

Regarding changing from 2.82 to 3.06, it's only 10ths of reduction in time. Worth the expense?

BTW, this analysis is significantly affected by the torque curve shape. Basically, the more the production of torque is shifted to higer RPM, [thus the higher the RPM of the HP peak] the more benefit you get from running shorter gears. As Carl likes to say, our cars "shoot thier load early", so going too short has diminishing returns, as our 5.4L motors peak torque real low and really drop off near redline. The 3.26 gearing available for my W202 would probably be optimal for my and Carl's 5.4L W202s ... but again, probably not worth the expense of the ring & pinion change IMO. Though, I really have to price it ... if it's $1500? maybe.

I knew nothing about the 2006 car.Every CLK55 b4 as I stated from published reports say 2.82 for all previous years. 3.06 should be nice for the new 2006 cars.

Hi All,

Just got word that AMG Germany are shipping me a LSD AMG 3.06 ratio diff (30% lock) directly to my dealer for install for when my new CLK55 arriving in 2 weeks.

I have been talking to MB Australia and AMG Germany over the last week and got a email late Friday night that it was happening.

I have asked the dealer to keep the timber box the LSD comes in so I can put my original CLK55 3.06 ratio diff in it for freighting purposes.

If any forum members are interested in making an offer on this 3.06 ratio diff you can PM me. I would say freight to the US would be aroung $200 Australian but I will get this confirmed this coming week.

It's a shame that we don't get LSD.The only LSD equipped AMG car currently sent here to the US is the SL65.

Doesnt LSD come with the 030 package? I thought the SL55 on the showroom floor at MBUSA had LSD. I could be wrong though.
