Anyone had a Xenon go out?

Well driving home from South Coast Plaza today, I get about 2 miles away and I see a default show up on the display. It says "Low Beam Right" and I am thinking that my PIAA Super White inside parking bulb has blown. I pull into my parking space and notice that only one side of the wall is bright and the passenger side is somewhat dark. I leave the car running and get out to inspect the problem and low & behold, the low beam xenon blub is not on. I never had this problem with my W208 and is strange to me that this light would go out. Has anyone else had this happen to them on a car with Bi-Xenons? I am taking it in for the 1st check up between 1k & 3k miles and get the aligment straighten out, so I will have them check into this as well. Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

probably not...most of the times (yes, more bi xenon lights have this problem) the igniter has problems...and the igniter sits INSIDE the headlight...and the lens on that headlight is SEALED...so in order to get a simple part renewed, the headlight has to be replaced (MB engineering).

Easier to fix are problems with the bulb itself and the ballast unit, but those parts don't nearly have as many problems as the igniters have.

Are you having the pull to the right issue too?

A friend of mine with a ML350 had there same bi-xenon low beam replaced twice! even after they already replaced it once it went out again. This was all in 3 months since he had the car.

I took it in to Service this morning and they have to replace the entire light assembly. They had to order the part & hopefully it will be in tomorrow, so I had to drive home tonight with only one light and my fogs on! I felt somewhat embarrassed doing this in a $70+k car, but they were able to fix the alignment problem.

I've worked with xenons for about 8 years now. The most problematic issue that I have seen is the ballast or ignitor. Rarely have I seen a bulb go bad, maybe just once.

so dan, what do i need to do to fix the "low dim on right lamp" error?. It goes away if i switch it off for sometime and turn it back on again.

To me it sounds like a faulty ballast. But that is just a guess.

Well, got the light fixed and they had to replace the entire lamp unit. They told me that the ignitor when bad and that is why the light went out. All I know is that it is fixed now and I am very happy, except that now the new light is a different color than the old one. My tech told me that it will burn in after a little while and look like the other, I am keeping my fingers crossed!
