I've been hunting for an inexpensive source for OEM brake pads and calipers for almost three years. I still have not found a reliable source other than a dealer.

Some dealers will discount parts to MBCA members (10%) or try some of the dealerships listed in the back of The Star magazine.

I got my CLK in June '02, so not quite three years yet I'm still less than 18K miles and at the most recent service (Nov.) the tech said I still had 80% pad left on the fronts.

The Tire Rack has front pads for the 208 55 starting at about $62. I think those were the EBC Green and the EBC Reds were $67. I have the EBC Green on my 430 and they have lasted over 2 years with minimal wear, no dust and no rotor troubles whatsoever. I haven't looked for rotors...yet!

I just checked again, and they now have "satisfied" pads for $46 for the front 208 55.

At some point when I need pads, I would have no trouble purchasing the EBC Green, as they have been trouble free on my 430. No experience with the other brands.

Now for the bigger question...where to get rotors when that day comes?

Anyone found any yet?

Unless you change rotors and calipers, the only place that I am aware of that sells OE quality two-piece rotors for our cars is the dealer. And yup, they are pricey.

Mercedesshop.com has them for $256 each, is that our only choice?

As far as I know, if you want to retain the stock calipers. I'll stick as/is....the stock setup in the W208 CLK55 outperformed the C32 w/brembo setup in an Autoweek test (112 ft vs. 117 ft) on 60-0 braking.

So what are some of the dealer quotes for front rotors? Are they ABOUT $256 or higher? I will not be putting on the dust producing OEM pads again, ever! Those things are horrible. To the best of my memory, I have used the EBC Greens on the following with NO troubles:

87 260E
90 300E
92 400E
99 CLK320
99 CLK430
