Post Audi R8 V-10, great competition 2 new 63 Black Series?

The new R8 V-10 will be a good bit faster and more exclusive than even the "regular" 4.2 liter R8. It should have a little over 500 HP and have zero to sixty times right around the CLK 63 Black series times, and sort of comparable prices too.

Would any of you consider it over a 63 black series? It most certainly will look more exotic and exclusive than the CLK.

Bro, what's your deal?

Schiznick, I do not work for Audi. Your replies are making me feel that maybe no news of any Audi's is welcome on these forums anymore.

I have always and will always like Mercedes better than Audi, period.

Do you not think that the V-10 R8 is a viable competitor to the CLK 63 Black Series?

They're two different cars. I mean, they are priced around the same and acceleration #s should be close.
I see this as more of a competitor with the SL55 and 911TT.

Its beautiful and unique and with the lambo's V10 it should be an impressive car.

Very limited market for both cars; I don't think there is much overlap, though. IMO, most people looking for an 'exotic' car for $130k will look to used Ferraris and Lambos before considering an Audi, and most serious enthusiasts looking to spend $130k will be after the GT3/GT3RS due to their RWD.

The CLK63 BS is going to be sought after by MB aficionados; it is not different enough from the relatively unpopular standard CLK coupe to attract those looking for an 'exotic', and it is too heavy to sway somebody from the GT3/GT3RS for track use.

Personally, I love the CLK63 BS. I've had an Audi S4, and probably won't ever buy another Audi...I just don't like AWD cars (regardless of how they try to compensate by splitting power delivery F/R).

You wont see the AUDI R8 with over 500 HP, that would be stupid since the gallardo has 520. Why would AUDI undercut Lamborghini sales?

Isn't the V-10 at least two years out? It's pure vapor right now. I was thinking about the V8 R8 and was told it would be over a year to take delivery. I passed because I had a hard time rationalizing that over my M6 or the fact I could get a 997 Turbo right now. So it's pretty hard to get excited about the next version.

It's more solid than vapor. I'm sure there is a fixed roll-out date, and all of the engineering is done. It probably took more engineering to make the 4.2 V8 fit into the car since the architecture was adapted from the V10 Gallardo.

And while the CLK63 Black is visually in a difference category, both the Gallardo and the CLK63 will compete with the 911 GT3, which means that they compete with each other.

The Gallardo is ~$50k more than the CLK63 BS, R8, and the Porsches. I realize that once cars are well over $100k mark it's not about value anymore, but that's still a big chunk more...I doubt may people will be cross-shopping the Gallardo with the others.

You'll see a Corvette blue devil/SS/ Z07, before the V-10 hits our shores and then watch that compaison. Audi has a uphill climb in this league they want to be a player against porsche and thats the aim of the R8. Porsche at least has a racing pedigree that attracts a lot of the Gt3 buyers, Audi doesn't. (OK the Audi Sport won some rallies). It's a Gallardo clone at a cheaper price. I don't see any cross shopping of an R8 and a CLK63 BS. If you've done any racing, its clear AMG put significant development $ in making the CLK 63 BS track worthy. Ask your Audi dealer if they warrantee an R8 if you track it. AMG will.

Pardon my bias, but after owning numerous Audi's personally and in my company, I can no longer endure the hype of this massively depreciating marque, all wheel drive wonder. My $.02 is don't own an R8 without a warrantee.

It will be interesting to see what the fate of the R8 is, now that Porsche is a majority shareholder of VAG...

While the R8 is positioned to compete with the more expensive 911s, it was also developed to provide a 'halo' car for the Audi marque in an effort to bring the whole model range up-market. In this regard, it will probably continue to be built in small quantities.

The R8 is a very nice car.

Not so fast in acceleration, but far from slow, but excellent on the track.
