How soft (track like) are the tires on the CLK63 Black

Read the new 977 GT3's tires have an 80 wear rating and was wondering if anyone knows what the factory tire on the USA ver. CLK63 Black is rated.?

An 80 rating is akin to trackday rubber...

That's a good question, and I was wondering the same thing. I thought the answer might be found on what the CLK 63 F1 safety car has, but it uses Bridgestone Re050's and in different sizes 235/19 & 265/19 proly due to the fact Bridgestone is the F1 tire supplier.

I've heard that the CLK63 Blacks are coming with Pirelli Corsa's. The Corsa's I've run on my porsche for track events have a wear rating of 60 . However, I don't think AMG will have this soft a tire. My bet is a spec tire that's around a UTQG of around 100. There are some origional equipment Corsa's that have a UTQG of 140 for a specific size tire, which is the exception.

The porsche guys are telling me that they are getting 4500-6000 miles with the MPSC and thats with about 800 miles of track use. Porsche's attitude is that tires are consumables. AMG says that at the end of the day, it must still be a Mercedes. Maybe someone who has seen the car in person can chime in.

The one I saw at the NYC show had Pirelli P Zero Corsa's. All Porsche 997 GT3's come from the factory with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup's, NOT the normal Pilot Sport PS2's that are on my 997S. I have gotten well over 12,000 miles on the PS2's. However the Pilot Sport Cups will get about half of that give or take a few 100 miles. Not sure how much tread life is in the Corsa's. But, I will say the Michelin's are the best tires I've ever had on a car, they blow away the Bridgestone S-03's I have on my E55 in both comfort and handling.

Ok, but all the 12+ 997GT3's I have seen had the MPS Cup's. I wounder which tire is faster around the track?? I really have no idea since I have never even seen a P zero Corsas other than the ones on the CLK63 Black at the NYC auto show back in April.

Just visited Tire Rack's website and found Pirelli P Zero Corsa's have a 60 tread wear rating with just 6/32's of tread depth. " TRACK TIRES" did I say "TRACK TIRES"

I also know... from other cars with soft tires... that the wheel wells will look sand blasted in a short time from all the small gravel & sand that soft tires pickup

One solution would be to get a normal set of street tires, mount them on a second set of rims, and save the Corsa's for track use. Or just get ride of the Corsa's altogether( sell on ebay) and buy some good, street tires that last longer.
