There is no love lost between the hosts of television show “Top Gear” and green vehicle producers. The Nissan Motors motor corporation isn't amused by a recent overview of the Nissan Leaf that the show broadcast recently. Article resource: Top Gear starts new electric car quarrel over Nissan Leaf.
People tend to forget its an entertainment show. We're talking about a show where they make a space shuttle out of a Reliant Robin, try and cross the channel in a Toyota Hilux, etc. Also, its nice to hear a different message than the "Green" bandwagon every politician jumps on to look contemporary and "with it." I love cars like the CLK63 Black, SLS, and C63 because they aren't beige, aren't boring, and embrace the reasons enthusiasts buy cars and they are a dying breed. Some people want the car buying experience to mimic going to Home Depot to pick up a washing machine...I don't.
Also, the entire point of that segment on Top Gear is that battery-tech is a stop-gap measure at the moment, a steward until the king is ready to rule. The true successor is hydrogen. Water for emissions and older cars can be converted to run on it. They were not saying "don't buy electric" they were saying "here's the issues you need to be aware of when buying an electric car." Issues most dealers don't tell you, which is why Nissan is mad.
