"For sheer excitement, the CLK Black is a match for absolutely anything. Since it went back to Mercedes, I have been thinking about it a lot. Because I’m not sure that anyone’s life is quite complete unless they have one." - Jeremy Clarkson

That's quite possibly the best thing he's ever said about any car. He raved about my previous car, the RS6, so maybe I have more in common with him than just nationality.

you beat me to it...I was going to quote this:

"the simple fact of the matter is this: for sheer excitement, the CLK Black is a match for the 430.

For sheer excitement, the CLK Black is a match for absolutely anything. Since it went back to Mercedes, I have been thinking about it a lot. Because I’m not sure that anyone’s life is quite complete unless they have one. "

That says ALOT. Haven't heard him talk about a car like that since the McLaren F1.

Well, what could we be witnessing? Somebody with a ton of car experience who is willing to speak heresy?
Finally there is an opinion that busts thru the prevailing belief that "nothing can be equal to Ferrari". I am really glad to see that, not because I need affirmation, but because somebody had the guts to say what he felt. AS

Clarkson is about as biased toward AMG cars as he is toward anything behind a British marque.

I love his writing, but I honestly have to take his final opinions with a grain of salt, as there appear to be many outside influences affecting his reviews.

Are you kidding? He trashes Mercedes everytime they have a car on the show.

Actually, he loves Mercedes.

On the SLK vs Boxster, he did a test in an military shooting ground, where he was getting shot at. The SLK did worse in the test, but he just liked it better.

On the SLR, his verdict is: "The supercar for everyday driving"

On the other hand, he hates Porsche... he always calls them VW bugs or beetles...

Except the one he bought for himself (SL55).

And the C63, and the CLS... and well, every AMG I can remember.

Now... save the stupid comment about the hand built engines in the CLS (which we all know is complete BS, and Jeremy has since apologized for saying it), I'd say that's some pretty positive press.

Clarkson always said that the daily driver he kept the longest and drove the most was his SL55, he picks the AMG model in just about every comparison test I can think of (SLK vs. Boxster, C63 vs. M3 vs. RS4, E55 vs. RS6 vs. M5, E63 vs. M5), and you know he's gonna buy a CLK63BS...

Where again is he slamming AMG??

You are guys are mistaken. He trashes their quality constantly and rues the day he bought an SL. And when he does saying anything postive it usually in a backhanded kind of way (eg the SL65 clip) or as an actor playing a part (eg the C63 advocate in the comparison with M3 and RS4).

The guy has bought more Mercedes for himself than any other marque.

He always picks the Merc in comparison tests (unless there's an Aston Martin involved of course).

Read his articles, he's about as pro-AMG as it gets.

I really, really don't think I'm mistaken here. I'm about as loyal of a Top Gear/Jeremy Clarkson fan as you can find.

He picked the M3 in the most recent.

He picked the "axe murderer with headlight" C63. In the end he said the RS4, M3 and C63 were all brilliant.

Clarkson tends to like cars with big engines except Ferrari and Aston. Naturally he prefers AMGs.

He said the M3 was the best car (and he's right), but he also said that he wouldn't buy it. He'd buy the Benz.

God knows I disagree with him... but his final statement was clear... the C63 was his favorite.

He doesn't care for Mercedes that much, he picked the M3 as the better car. He has a tendency to be theatrical about power.
It's the same crap he pulls all the time. When the M6 was going against the 911S and and an Aston he kept saying he couldn't live without the 500 hp of the bimmer. When he reviewed th SL65 he trashed it but said he kick out of all the power. When the tested a CL65 he basically said the same.
The point is, he isn't high on Mercedes. He's just a power *****.

Surprised to see such a warm and heartful review from JC. I almost expected him to rip the BS apart; stiff suspension, no rear seats, loud, uncomfortable etc.
