CLK63 BS on the dyno video....

Renntech was tuning a CLK63 BS while I was having my headers installed so I took some videos and got the dyno graph, they aren't done tuning it yet, but so far they picked up 45 rwhp and 55 rwtq (peak).... check the dyno graph and look at the torque pickup across the RPM range, especially down low, looks like a 100 rwtq pickup....

CLK63 Black Series RennTech Tune

45 rwhp just from shorty headers + ECU Very impressive gains

The 390 rwhp figure seems a bit low for stock car though, doesn't it?

not really low car ranges from 380-425 stock. This is interesting as that looks like my last dyno exactly. I think I was 440/399 with VRP 530 and evotech ECU

Wonder why they choose shorty instead of long version? I think Evosport made a little more gains than those although they did long tube headers vs the shorty ones.

So the dyno graph on that link which shows a rwhp of 436 IS after the shorty headers and ecu? HHHmmmm interesting.

Mine made 418 on the stock baseline run in 5th gear ( I think it was 5th gear)...that 390 must have been a 4th gear pull. If not it is indeed very low. Once again, I had mine dyno'd before I shipped it off to Evosport and upon returning home had it dyno'd again, just to keep everyone honest. It is fairly easy to manipulate HP figures on a dyno. Both runs were similar, within 2.5 hp of each other, that tells me that my numbers are very, very accurate.

As for his decision on the shorty vs. long tube, I would assume he is doing that to keep it emmisions/street legal, it would be hard to run cats with long tube. I am running no cats on my set-up, just resonators.

One more thing, the increase in torque is very impressive, it rivals my torque numbers...don't know why or how that would be, just an observation. Nice improvment to overall curve as well.

I wonder how much he is paying? That would be a nice comparison as well.

We got about to ~475whp with long tubes and ECU tune, so starting from 390, that means we made 85whp.

Jim, we could do cats in your car or any car with our header/x-pipe.

Your car would indeed pick up some torque with the cats, sacrificing some HP. With the torque it already has and the ease with which you spin wheels, I think we went the right way with your car.

I am interested to see verified before and after dyno's and if it is a header or a log manifold.

thanks
Brad

Cost comparison, there is no comparison. I spoke with in depth with Renntech and Evosport and got figures quoted to me by both. Evosports prices were a little better, and it appears they were able to extract more HP from the engine than Renntech has. I was all set to have my car sent to Evosport for mods similar to JRCART's car, however something came up and a few people slipped in line ahead of me. I will be shipping my car to them this coming fall/winter.

Another thing I did not like about Renntech was that they seemed against the idea of a long tube header, he said it would not be worth the money and they could get nearly as much HP out of their shorty. Well, by the looks of this dyno graph, they are not even close.

Something does not seem right with those dyno numbers. I just had my BS dyno tested right after my 2000 mile service and oil and dif fluid change, I figured it was nice and broken in. Mine made 416whp. HP numbers in the 390 range seems very low to me, it does not even coincide with the 500 crank HP figure that MB quotes. Even if I factor a 20% driveline loss, that would still equate to 400whp. A more realistic factor would be 17%-18% loss, which would result in the numbers that most of the rest of us are seing ranging from 415-420.

That's what I was thinking..... 390 whp does not add up to 507 hp unless it was drastically hot and humid during that day or something else was wrong with the car

On average, CLK63 BS dyno numbers fall between 415 to 420 whp. So adding +45whp would've got that BS up to 460 to 465 whp.
