All this talk about gas prices affecting the value of the BS. I don't know maybe I am to liberal with my money but when I spend 120k+ on a car that is track oriented with no back seats I am not to concerned with gas prices. But hell I pay $15 a gallon for C16 for my turbo cars and although I don't like it to much it beats turning the boost down. I truly don't think anyone looking seriously at a BS is swayed by another .50cent a gallon.

Alright, I did some driving in the CLK BS, C63, & M6 on the same stretch of road, which I'm going to post comparison test of the C & CLK in other thread later. Between the CLK & M6, I would definitely pick the key to the CLK more often, because the car gives you more feedback, it's actually less frustrating, and the whole car is just another step forward compare to the M6. Granted my M6 is a MY07, but I doubt BMW did much changes on the MY08's, also, the CLK is ready to give me the max performance potential without the need of pressing buttons to get some more juice out of the engine. Although at a push of a button would reveal all the potential of the car, but the lack of torque in the V10s are really disappointing, don't get me wrong, I still love my M6 very much as I love my other cars, it's an exceptional piece, but like others said, it's a GT car, and not so much track focused.
Suspension: CLK is better than M6, stock wise.
Tranny: M6 is better, it's more engaging, but in stop & go traffic, I prefer auto.
Engine: CLK is better, I love torque
Steering: CLK's steering gives more feedback, while the M6 is quite numb, too relaxing.
Overall: CLK hands down.

I was wondering what is the market price for a new BS? There are a lot of them on autotrader. I've heard there is a lot of discount on these cars. What's a good deal on these bad boys?
Thanks in advance.
BIN = $118,000 in NY state.

I agree! For a BS that's brand spankin new that is really a good deal. Wonder why it's that low? And is that dealer making any profit on that car or just trying to get rid of it? Originally Posted by chuck z

Wow, that's what I paid for a 2005 SL65 last March. Time to plan for a next January Purchase. Just waiting for that near bottom.

I gathered from the description they got it for a customer who didn't take it and I think its a case of a small dealer trying to get it out of their inventory.......Originally Posted by JamE55

I agree with you on most points but I think its closer than a "hands down" win for the CLK63.
The M6 is a far better daily driver and highway cruiser(even with SMG). It has more luxury than the CLK63 and is a more forgiving ride.
And on the performance end, for me, SMG is so vastly superior to the auto gearbox in the CLK that the power of the AMG motor is almost lost. The shifting between gears is unbelievably slow in the Merc (very frustrating).
That said, the CLK63 Black is a monster.

Looks like the supply of Black Series is starting to decrease. I've been searching Autotrader regularly since I became interested in the cars. Total cars available is now 77 but that is usually higher than the real number because I think they double count. In recent months it has been near 100.
Prices are fairly steady. There are many listed below MSRP but still now below the $115K that LHZ is asking. People may be able to negotiate a price near this but that is the lowest listed price. So it seems that for the moment prices have stabilized.

Can't quite cruise on the highways in NYC because traffic is everywhere even on the weekends.
That's why I said M6 is a very very good GT car, while the CLK BS is a almost perfect track beast.

I would be surprised if it was actually half that number based on my experience with Autotrader. Listings remain posted long after a car is sold, listings are frequently posted automatically by computer when a car arrives at a dealership even though it is already sold, some listings are purely for marketing purposes to drum up business, listings include "near matches" (i.e. CLK 63 cabs) in the total count, etc. I agree the supply is decreasing and prices are firming. I wonder whether the dealer mentioned above had a deposit on the car that was forfeited and thus was able to offer such a low price.Originally Posted by SteveL

Great deal on that car BTW. If I were looking at a Black Series I would snap this thing up in a heartbeat....Think of it this way, you are getting the car and not having to pay sales tax, not to mention protect yourself from a years worth of depreciation.

No tax? Are you serious? So if someone from cali was to buy that car and bring it to CA there is no tax? Interesting. Thought there is. Also can you elaborate on protecting yourself from a years worth of depreciation part?Originally Posted by LZH

Sure - The dealer is selling a BRAND NEW car for basically $20k off sticker. I paid $138,375, plus about $12k in taxes. So, with the $20k in savings for a NEW CAR, it pretty much pays for the taxes you would have paid and then some to factor in the depreciation for driving the car (read, what you would pay if you were to lease....$$$ per mile). At least, that's the way I look at it. If the car had already been titled and had a few thousand miles on it...it'd be a different story. But, it's brand new and they aren't making anymore which is why getting it brand new for $20k off sticker is such a great deal.Originally Posted by JamE55

Don't you have to pay sales tax when you register the car in California? I did when I brought a car in from Arizona.Originally Posted by LZH

Read his next post where he explains that the savings on the MSRP cover the sales tax so instead of paying $138K + 12K tax = $150K, you pay $120K + $10K tax for a total of $130K. You do have to pay the tax in California when you register the car. California is one of the worst states for car taxes. If you trade in a car that costs say $30K, you still have to pay tax and the full purchase price. And the person who buys the $30K car also pays tax so they collect sales tax on the full purchase price every time a car is sold.Originally Posted by group5

As a current owner, I can honestly say that I am not excited to see this but here is another NEW one in NY state offered at $122k + free shipping.
On the other hand, if I were looking to buy I'd probably be happy.......

It seems apparant that some of us "got it" with the BS, but most haven't figured it out. I look back on the initial intro of the Camaro Z28, when I said, "why would you pay more for a 302 than a 327?" An L88 Corvette also seemed very expensive compared to hydraulic lifter model, and sooo much harder to maintain. Remember when guys put chevy engines into their Ferraris? In the late 60's, I missed on buying an original road model GT40 for $12,000.
Sometimes it take a while to figure out what is special and worth buying. Right now, everybody who snaps up a discounted BS is doing themselves and us a favor. As soon as there are none left, everyone who didn't buy one can get sad and nostalgic. Then, we will see the true value.
In the end, it doesn't matter to me, as I won't sell it if it goes down or up anyway. AS

Guys you really need to just get over the fact that these cars are being had at less then sticker. Dealers that own them are suffering BIG TIME in this economy. VERY few people are buying any luxury items/goods right now. This is not specific to AMG's - it's affecting everyone. Hang onto your Black Series, wait till after the election, let the market rebound (it always does), and let the SL Black Series come out and all the naysayers of the CLK Black Series will realize what a bargin the car was for us lucky first owners. I don't plan on selling mine.

I agree with both of the above two posts. I can personally attest to the soft market having just sold, actually in the process of selling our 08 RRSC with just 2k miles and we're taking a bath on it..... I also think there is a lot of BS inventory (relatively speaking of course) right now and some small dealers that have BSs want them out of their inventory. As many have stated b/f, cars are generally terrible investments and we certainly didn't buy the car thinking it would go up in value. We bought ours to enjoy it. The exception to the investment rule was my 1995 Porsche 928 GTS that more than doubled in value in 7 years.
