2009 CLS63 already has blipping

http://www.nextautos.com/winding-roa...benz-cls63-amg

This shows the UPDATED 2009 CLS63 now has what they call 'Speedshift Plus', and it lists that it does throttle blipping in both manual and non manual modes!!!!!

This proves it is possible on a non C63 on an already existing model

How they do it remains to be seen.

The SL65 BS also has speedshift plus, this time with M1 and M2 modes, and confirmed throttle blipping

There was never an issue with putting throttle blipping on new models of the 63. The issue is coming up with a retrofit to an existing model and whether a manufacturer is or is not able under U.S. regulations to offer an upgrade on a car that has already been approved (safety and emissions) by federal regulators without it.

100% correct. However, what if it's not consodered an upgrade, but a fix ?

I am certainly no expert on this but i dont think it matters what they call it. If the manufacturer offers any type of "fix" that changes the shift patterns of a specific model of car, I believe they will most likely have to have it recertified for at least fuel economy purposes and maybe emissions unless they can claim some exception because the engine/tranmission has already been approved in an identical vehicle, which it has not. The C63 and CLS 63 each have different weight characteristics and hp ratings so they most likely can not be used for comparison. Remember that the manufacturers must pay fees/taxes based on the fuel economy ratings of their vehicles. The govt does not want the manufacturers to be able to game the system by having a car certified with higher fuel economy and therefore less fees, and then have the manufacturer later offer a performance upgrade which may lower those fuel economy ratings and which would have resulted in higher fees if originally on the car when certified. If someone is more familiar with how this works, please chime in.

Unless you are reading the Mercedes press releases and believing everything, Im not sure I would call a 2009 model CLS a NEW model just because it has a two bar grill and new paintwork colours available. What I am saying is that on a car with IDENTICAL electronics, they have now shown that they CAN include the throttle blipping with software only.

Prior to the CLS information, you are just assuming there are no electronics differences between a C63 and the rest of the cars.

Its probably like speedshift plus on a 55 kompressor and the 2003 transmission, I have read its not possible to fit 'speedshift plus' on a 2003 because it has old electronics.

So in terms of the 63, we now have confirmed, rather than simply having an uninformed assumption, that a software upgrade could make a 2007 CLS blip the throttle if the 2009 program/s are put into it. If Mercedes won't do it, we need to find out if the aftermarket will come to help us.

I wonder if it needs both the ECU and the TCU programmed to do this, or just the ECU

There's too much reason and logic in this post, maybe even a fact or two.

I demand that ET550 be suspended until he is imbued with the MBWorld mentality!

I was told by someone at AMG that the throttle blip is done in the ECU, not the TCU.

Again - you are correct (jerk ). But, bold above....if they don't call it that...they can call it whatever they like and simply say that many customers are complaining of poor shifting and BAM bring it n for a dealer "fix". Anyway, that's what I'm going to propose in the Chat session tomorrow and see if they might possibly reconsider with that angle...

Best of Luck! Maybe even direct them to this thread so they know it's not just you who want this.

Sorry but i am just not following your logic nor am I sure its relevant. By new model I meant new model year. I assume you do not know for a fact what was changed to the CLS in the 2009 model year to permit the blipping. Yes it was probably just a software upgrade but for all you know they may have put a stronger component in the transmission as well. Regardless, as I have said before, I think this is more of a testing and certification issue to comply with U.S regulations than anything else.

Hey, its ok, I have been called worse. In any event, if that was possible I think Chevrolet would have probably offered a "fix" a long time ago for the Corvette transmission which I believe had a second gear lockout to meet fuel economy ratings that was not very popular.

Why not have everone over here post their thoughts over on the PL rather than expecting them to come and read it over here? I agree thta it should be brought up again tonight on the chat. If I am able to join I will bring it up.

The email I got yesterday said the chat was at 9 tonight.

I will be posting on PL. I believe there's nothing like letting AMG know.
That's why they designed the PL.

Well guys, not good news. Here are the offical responses from the guys at AMG when asked by myself and others :

"I completely understand the desire to have this software changed to add this updated feature (now on the SL63 AMG and other models).

You likely know that this is not a matter of simple softare reprogramming, and it requires a lot of careful calibration and testing - under many circumstances - and a pretty comprehensive engineering program. Also, there may be certification aspects, which we would not plan to alter after the fact (emissions and fuel economy).

Then there is the cost question, and to perform this and offer it to our owners, would make the new software prohibitively expensive (no one would want to pay) and this for 399 cars.

I am sorry that this is not the answer you wanted, and we looked into this carefully."

This was their response to actually trying to buy the upgrade:

"The development, testing and rollout of revised software would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $250,000. Given, that these costs have to be amortized somehow, if every single one of the 399 CLK Black Series owners wanted this upgrade it would still be several thousand dollars each.

With this information, we looked long and hard for ways in which to reduce the cost and make this possible for our owners. Ultimately, it wasn't possible I'm afraid.

This pains us since we are, and always have been, the most vocal representatives of the customer's wishes.

Like Rob said, sorry it's not better news."

Thanks to everyone who posted in tonight's chat session. Sorry we couldn't make it happen !!!

Old news, that hasn't changed.

But maybe this time it put an end to the further speculation about future prospects for an upgrade

Guess I'll just have to find someone to crack a C63 ECU and figure out how to make it work on my ECU.

Not to steal Luke's thunder, but the PL said they'd revisit the rev matched downshift issue after half of their posts were on that topic tonight. AMG said the cost was 250k for the development. Apparently they're listening.

Well, at least we know they have been listening and out requests have not fallen on deaf ears. Here is exactly what wa said.....granted, this was after a few of us said we'd be willing to pay for it

"The resurgence of interest has convinced us to revisit this issue one more time. There are no guarantees that we can provide this (we've been shot down twice already), but like I said, if our owners want it, we'll be certain to push it as far as we can.

Thanks for the enthusiasm."

AMG C63
According to AMG on the private lounge they were going to visit this and it sounded to me like it would be a software upgrade and BS owners would get it for free.
I have the C63 not the black series but its perplexing to me why the top-O-th-line car doesnt have the function

Because it doesn't really need the function to perform as designed, it is little more than a gimmick (for poseurs?).

Note: Nissan has now introduced a manual transmission with automatic revving to help those who can't heel and toe, where will it all end?.

People get their "tails in a tizzy" over the silliest things. I would have much preferred the car to have ceramic brakes, a performance enhancement worth having!

clk63 cs, bunch 911,bentley,
its sad to see that MB created such a nice car and for merely 250k they are going to **** at their supporters (you and I, BS owners). i know for a fact that porsche willingly and go out of their ways to take care of some of their loyal supporter. i was in line to get a sl65 bs too. after seeing how they resolve this incident. i canceled my order.

BS owner are not normal car owners. we paid big buck for a car that has wide range of capability in all to enjoy the art of driving. the factory is ignoring our demand bacause bs is not a high production car. this is sad...
