clk63 black vs gt3 vs gtr
#2
Haven't driven a GTR, but did try a new GT3. I prefer big V8 power for everyday driving. The comfort and space of the BS are advantages. The BS rides harder than the GT3 (PASM helps a bunch). The BS is unique (won't be built again), rock solid, and the warranty is not threatened or voided by track use (shame on Porsche for that failing).
I kept my 996ttX50 when I got the BS. It is now my winter car.
As far as the GTR, it isn't stirring my soul, and since car purchase is fundamentally emotional, it would never enter my equation. Does it move you?
For value today, I think I'd consider a CTS-V Caddy as an everyday driver. I know it doesn't seem as "sporty", but it looks good, and the numbers don't lie.AS

How big/tall are you? How are u going to feel about squeezing into one of those cars each and every day multiple times a day? Id go with neither, but that's just me. I think about safety and comfort with all the accidents that happen each day.....X5 will be my next daily driver "vehicle".

Looking at his avatar cars, he should find the above trio all fairly accommodating

A GT-R is a better DD than either the Black or the GT3, especially if you live in a climate that has snow. The all wheel drive is great.
On top of that the GT-R is faster than either.
Having said that, the GT-R isn't even close in fit and finish.
I just let my black go for a GT3 (October build) and would have kept it over my GT-R if I lived in a more moderate climate.
Also, the GT-R warranty seems cryptic and ever changing. This is the first car I've owned that I genuiely don't know if the company will stand behind it if something goes wrong. Thats not a good feeling especially considering a new tranny in a GT-R costs $20K.

That's the guy to talk to right there ^.... great insight, Chiphomme. ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
All seems to make perfect sense from my layman's perspective.
Owners can tell you 100 times more than people who have merely spent a mere hour or two behind the wheel.

CLK63 Black Series
I recently drove a friend's Nissan GT-R, and it is a fast car.
But, it did not cause me to have the same, "I've got to have this car," feeling that I immediately had when I first drove a CLK63 Black Series.
Both cars are good, one just happens to push more of my buttons, than the other. I think that you should go and drive them yourself, and then you can decide which attributes are more important to you.
After all, you are going to be the one who ultimately has to be satisfied with the final choice.

I have both the Black Series and a GT3RS. Have not driven the GTR. The difference between the BS and the GT3RS is huge. The BS is terrific as a (very) hot rod daily driver, and is HUGELY torquey. The gearbox is clever but ultimately dissociated. The car is heavy and everything is massively capable. The Porsche is light, nimble, with totally transparent steering and 1000 lbs less to carry. Its power is much higher in the rev range. The clearest indication of their difference is their sound. The BS has a fabulous rumble on starting. The GT3RS has an incredible banshee wail at 8,000 rpm. Having both is a real treat!

The dealers can look at the number of revs, how long the motor stayed at certain revs and determine if the damaged happened while "racing" - ie trac use and then deny any warranty claim or outright void the entire manufacturers warranty.

It doesn't. The reference was to Porsche voiding warranties due to track use. Many (novice) Porsche owners were tracking their cars and hitting the money shift...then taking their cars to dealers expecting new motors while they had pieces of exhaust valves hangin out their tailpipes...
...
...
They've denied RMS leaks because people have put on after market exhausts.
There's a pattern of cutting back on claims, especially when related to track use.

Porsche never denied my claims (actually replaced 4 tires that had belt shift after tracking), but lots of folks had brake, transmission, and engine repairs denied. While "Type 2 overrev" (the kind you get when downshifting into too low a gear) was commonly cited, it wasn't the only reason.
The BS is a purpose-built track car, with accessories intended only for track use (eg. differential cooler), and my dealer has been supportive of track use when I have openly announced it (Like, "I need the fluids changed before my day at the track").

Just a comment on track use of BS and warrantee, AMG sponsered my two day track event when I took delivery in Germany. The told me absolutely the car is covered by the warrantee, it's a Mercedes! We built this car to be tracked.

Need find a buyer for an 09' GTR. Even trade for the GT3. I wish that could happen. GTR is the automotive equivalent to Tommy Gun. Glass Transmission.

wow, if that was the case with the GTR I might have even overlooked the auto/manu trans and got one. Ironically many people /gtr fans & owners dismiss the severity of the warranty control issue nissan has.

I don't think many owners of GT-Rs dismiss the warranty issue. In fact, its quite the opposite. They're the ones that are at risk and most sensitive to it.
I just brought my GT-R in the shop and they "upgraded" the computers (ie hobbled launch control-not as bad as BMWs US SMG Ms).
Nissan has real problem here. They could probably sell twice as many GTRs if people weren't shying away because they fear a $20k tranny failure that isn't going to be covered.
That said, the GTR is a marvel and the trick tranny is amazing. I drove my old M3 w/SMG the other day and it was just awful by comparison.
