$60-70k's? Maybe a few in the high $70k's for cars with higher miles and the one with the branded lemon buy back title for $67.9k. Perhaps you've seen something I missed?

Chuck - I was just at Mercedes Benz of Laguna Niguel yesterday...they have a NEW, untitled RED Black Series. Delivery miles and the GM told me he would take between 100 and 110 for it.
Otherwise, if it doesn't sell, it will go into the collecion of the family who owns the dealership. And they have an amazing collection. I took some photos yesterday and will post them in a new thread...

If I'm not mistaken, that's where Todd bought his. They had two new red ones but I thought the owners daughter drove one of them and put about 500 miles on it and Todd bought the other one with delivery miles? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Coincidentally I was at MBLN yesterday too and I urge anyone in the area to take a peak... They have a red CLK BS, black SL65 BS, two silver CLK DTMs (one's a conv), an SLR conv but they aren't even the best....that is an orange competition CLK63 Black Series which is owned by the owner of the dealership. My buddy who I was with is a very good MBLN customer and was positively drooling, but Pat the GM was like "not this one Jack!"

I was just happy to get new pads fitted on my S. I took one of the SL65s (they have three BRAND NEW black 08s) for a spin and, as you can imagine, it wasn't hard to get a significant discount figure on those beauties...here's hoping for a economic turnaround in 2010...

Agreed! I didn't have my camera (my treo is useless) but I kept thinking, "man this would make for better shots than a car show". Although I think I'd be too embarrassed to be snapping pics in a showroom (or more likely too lazy to download them) but if I was ever gonna it would be there...

Still can't believe the ultimate MB selection...everything but a Gullwing

Since Rob is too shy to take pics in a dealers showroom ....Here's a few I snapped earlier this week at MBLN. Apparently the Orange race car was purchased from AMG for ~$250K.

Isn't that the one and only AMG test/demo car for the "63" engine when it was developed? Just a tad more hardcore that the Black Series itself.

Not sure about it's development history in relation to the 63 motor...I do know there were a few other similar cars painted white that AMG called "taxis" that they used to give customers rides around Laguna for the SL BS launch. Regardless, these were full blown race cars...MUCH more hardcore than the street legal Black Series. These cars have all the go fast goodies you would expect to find on a true race car....It's a shame the owner doesn't campaign one in either ALMS or Grand Am.

Again with the sly jabs and argument starting. I don't what it is with you and anger when on the internet but the grudges you have with dozens of people on here are no fun for people to read.

I just re-read your earlier post and the fact I didn't think to bring a camera nor am prone to taking pictures was not meant to be taken as an affront to either you or the choices you make.

On topic, thanks for the pics and no hard feelings at my end. The orange car is indeed extensive, 600bhp or thereabouts they "say"...I hope we get on better in person at a dealer's or meet than on the internet where tone and other factors can cause for misunderstanding...

AMG
By end of 2010, the CLK63 BS should be in the mid to high 50s & low 60s. At that price it becomes a serious bargain compared to many things out there and it should theoretically eventually base out in the 50s and hold there for a while since it is technically a limited production number. It will probably appreciate eventually but that's probably a good 2 years out. It will be the bargain of a lifetime soon which is why I'm eying one myself .

P.S. our 63 AMG product line comes out in 2010.

wow i missed all the fireworks.

Yes chuck is correct....they had 2 red ones and i balked on the one driven by the owner's daughter/wife or whatever with ~500 miles. After i bought mine and someone asked me for a little help, i asked my sales guy and he said they wouldnt sell the remaining one for less than 100K. They wanted to keep it in their personal collection/museum since it was rare.

Now ill catch up to the rest of this thread.

Orange AMG

Re: The Orange AMG at Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Nigel

This appears to be a P900. If it is not the same car, it is very similar to the P900 that was at Spa-Francorchamps at the AMG Driving Academy event there in 2007. I had the priviledge of being chauffeured around the track by Jamie Green, one of AMG's DTM drivers. Great car, driven by a very capable pilot!

Note: This car is based upon the limited production CLK-DTM vehicle and is definitely not a real DTM Racing car. The actual DTM Series cars are purpose-built racing cars that only vaguely look like a production vehicle from the spectator grandstands. This car is more akin to a "tuned" CLK-DTM. Stripped down lightweight interior, radical automatic transmission, wonderful sounding exhaust, poly-carbonate windows, and, of course, that wonderful high-visibility orange color.

+1

What is the current market for CLK-DTM's? I'd think one of the orange CLK-DTM's (one of, what? two? three?) has tremendous collector car potential down the road, and probably would've been in the ballpark of $500k+ new, if it was even allowed to be purchased/configured by a customer. Picking one up in excellent condition from a dealership for ~$250k does sound like a bargain, and might prove to be an excellent investment if the new owner keeps the mileage low and maintains it well.

AMG
Fine ... just wait & see, they will continue to depreciate especially as the economy gets worse. Used cars are usually the first to get hit hard when economy takes a sharp turn for the worse as it did last Jan-march (which is why now so many cars are practically being given away). IF the same thing happens again (which is likely) you could see many of these luxury/sport cars take a big hit again which would put the CLK63BS in the high 50s - high 60s range from their current level. Should be interesting to see what happens....

Above is the reason that all of us should drive our cars as much as possible. If you put 150,000 miles on any car, it's resale value becomes nil, and therefore unimpacted by decline of the economy.
It really doesn't bother me if the price falls to $50,000 next year, or three years from now. What is being emphasized is the RATE of depreciation, not the AMOUNT of depreciation. Did anybody think that if you kept the car for 10 years, even with minimal driving, it would be worth more than 50 grand? All cars go down in value, and the more they cost, the more they go down.
By the way, congratulations to all the lucky guys who buy in at great deals. AS
