DTM paddle shifters..

I was lucky enough to drive a CLK DTM road car this morning and one of things I did notice was how much more positive the paddle shifters worked compared to the black series.

The DTM paddles click when you change gear. In comparison, the BS version feels vague and not particuarly well weighted.

So my question is : does anyone know if the DTM shifters (and switch mechanism) can be fitted to the BS or is this one of those jobs that is way more complicated (expensive) than it should be. Thought one of the knowledgable "upgraders" on here may have looked into it ?

Cheers.

Is that the ONLY comparison you're going to offer?
C'mon lsb, inquiring minds want to know.

Ha,ha, of course not

Unfortunately the roads were damp in places this morning and the car is a friends so I was being fairly sensible, but my quick thoughts for what they are worth .......

The power delivery is very different to the Black. Due to the greater torque there is a bigger push back into the seat when accelerating. Also because of the five speed gearbox changing gear is less frenetic, you just ride the wave of torque whereas in the Black when you wind it up you have to change gear pretty quickly and often..... The exhaust note was probably not quite as good (to my ears at least).

Some of the roads where I live are have a pretty rough surface. Riding over the bumps the DTM felt less able to take them in it's stride. It felt stiffer in suspension but also in chassis, i.e rigid. The DTM's rear end is even more playful than the Black's (today at least).

Inside the DTM sounded much more "organic" than the black. The gearbox is much more mechanical, it changes gear with a "thud" but the gear change is quite a bit slower than that of the Black series - progress I guess. There were a few creaks and groans very much like a race car. As a day to day car the Black would be much more civilised, although not quite as much of an event to drive. There is much in common, inside and out and even driving, but they are quite different beasts.

The big question is : does it feel quicker ? My honest answer is yes, but by how much I do not know. My guess is not by that big of a margin. I will get the cars together soon and find out to give a definitive answer....

They are both great cars, different but great.

Unfortunately our climate isn't as predictable as yours so I think we'll have to wait for the temperature to rise a little first. Hey, by mid summer we may even break 20 degrees C so the tyres will get warm !
