Theft recovery CLK63 Black Series @ $68,995
If the car is reported missing and not recovered within 2 weeks (may vary between insur co's) then the claim can be processed as a total loss.
Let's say the car is recovered intact 2 days later, it doesn't matter, it's off your books and on to theirs.
Then they auction it with no damage.

Also not necessarily an auction, as there are dealers that insurance companies use that will purchase theft/salvage vehicles.
If the insureds policy didn't include gap, the amount of the claim paid may have been the amount that they sold the vehicle to the dealer.
The insured if not satisied with the amount offered to settle the claim can always hire an independent appraiser to further negotiate and possibly arbitrate.
This is the typical procedure for a vehicle that is low production and the "Blue Book" is hard to gauge...
Insurance unless it's "agreed value" is always a gamble even with GAP on a low production/specialty vehicle.
I've insured my BS for $85K with a $414 per annum premium through a collector car policy.
