Switch to Continental DWS's Instead of PS2's?

My OEM Corsa's are getting thin at 10K so I'm going to replace them. I called Tire Rack for some suggestions and was surprised to hear them strongly recommend Continental DSW high performance ZR-rated all season tires which BTW, I've heard and read is a very good tire. In fact, it's rated higher than Michelin in several of the recent comparison tests. Because I don't track my BS and it only comes out on nice non-weather days would you go with the DSW's or, as I had originally planned Michelin PS's that are more expensive? According to Tire Rack, the PS2's and DSW's are apples and apples but the DSW's will give me a smoother ride, handle just as well as the PS2's, and last longer due to their all season compound. BTW, I've got a line on new 285/30/19 PS2's for $275/tire.

I can't think of a worse street tire than the Corsa, so either decision is a winner. I live near Tire Rack, and take their advice all the time. It has been consistently good. I went to Bridgestones at their suggestion when my car was new. I have had no reason to change. I do have the Corsas mounted for track use, but will probably look for something else when they wear out. AS

Yup - corsas are JUNK on the street.
I run the PS2's and love them, have no experience with the DSW's tho, sorry...I'm sure for the street they are fine...just about anything is if you are a good driver and have good car control.

AS - what exact Bridgestone are you running and what sizes ? Stock ? I was thinking of going that route next...

I have Michelin PS2's on my car. Great grip level and ride quality. The Corsa's are not suited for street use, especially the kind of traffic we have here in LA. I'd take the Michelin's over the Continental's.

Check the "born" date on Tire Rack recommendation. Tires are not like wine, they don't get better sitting in a cellar.

You are kidding right? The DSW is a high performance all-season tire. You are putting this on a Black Series? Maybe if you plan to drive it in snow. You mentioned "nice" weather, however.

I think Conti must have a kickback deal on the DWS. Everyone is recommending it.

There is no comparison. Go PS2. DSW is more of a comparison to the Pilot Sport A/S.

Jim - couldn't agree more. Plenty of stories with stale rubber. Even in a climate controlled warehouse, you still want the freshest rubber you can get on these types of cars that are not getting 15K miles per year.

Story... I decided to go with Advan Sports vs. PS2. The first set arrived, the fronts were 5 years old, the rears were 3 years old. These did not come from Tire Rack, but Tire Rack may have likely gotten them from the same Yokohama warehouse. I told them no nice after they spoke with the sales rep and he checked dates in the entire warehouse on those sizes and we could not do any better.

So I switch to PS2. One set (front or back I forget) is over 2 1/2 years old already. For a $500 tire on a car that is not a daily driver? No dice! They got me freshies from this year and I was a happy camper.

Does anybody have any current personal experience to add or report on the Conti DWS's?
Reason: I'm looking to maybe replace my Bridgestone RE050A's.

How are you guys getting so many miles out of your tires???? I'm at 4,100 miles on my PS2s and they are GONEEE (rears). No burnouts, no track, just my daily driver. The Corsa's seemed to last longer but I need to invest in a tire company. So far I don't like the PS2s so I'm going with something different as soon as I can burn through the fronts.

My Bridegestones tend to go about 20,000*miles.No special treatment other than a few less pounds of pressure all around (still at 37,000 miles on the car- it has sat indoors for our snowy winter). AS

Check your alignment at an indy shop when you purchase the tires then have MB align the AMG rear first since they have the proper parts.

I run summer tires and winter tires on separate wheels. No such thing as a universal tire.

Not sure if they will come it the right size but the Pilot Super Sports are being rated even better than the PS2's and should be available now or later this month.

I have Conti DW (not the DWS) on my SLK55 and PS2 on my CLK55. I prefer the DW. DW has more grip with less road noise. Also better wear and tear.

I run Continental DW's (Dry-Wet) don't need the "S" (snow). They do have a little more road noise than the Corsa's but the difference between the Corsa and the DW on the dry street is negligible for everyday driving. The BIG difference is in wet grip, where the DW provides enough wet performance to keep you out of a guard rail. The DW's also last about twice as long as the Corsa's. Would highly recommend the Continental DW's as a Corsa replacement if you aren't mainly tracking the car...and if you are, just get a set of dedicated track tires.

Thanks for the info.. considering a set of 4 is just over $1k I'm going to give these a try. I have 7-8mm left on my corsas according to the last service and I'm not impressed enough with their street performance to shell out $2400+ for another set. Now I just have to decide how to dispense with the last 7mm of rubber before the new tires arrive

Alignment is stock (haven't changed it since delivery), tires are Bridgestone RE050A. They were a huge improvement for daily driving. AS
