It's an amazing car. It is faster than the BS in a straight line but does not have the balance/scalpel feel that a BS has. It is a bit more refined but yet raw and powerful at the same time. Yet, the BS puts the power to better use and in the right hands is more rewarding than the SLS IMO. Remember, even though its a ground up AMG car, it's not a BS nor is it intended to be. I see know (thats for you Dodger) reason whatsoever to own both because there are so many other cars that can compliment both but yet having both overlaps in so many ways.

The GT aspect of an SLS is trully unsurpassed. You can throw it around hardcore (although not as much as the BS), but for travelling, cruising, etc it's also spectacular.
I'd certainly own both, were it not that (1) I have an SL already which I modified to my liking the last 6 years of ownership and fulfills the GT role perfectly, and (2) there are financial restraints to my ambitions.
In short: BS for the fun and SLS for the grown-up part of your life.
PS: I'd opt for the SLS roadster without a doubt!

If you go to a MB Dealer and set in a SLS with the doors closed and then walk back and get in your CLK63 Black Series, you will notice big sightline differences.
The CLK63 BS is like wearing a open face helmet.
The SLS is more like putting a full face helmet on.

If you are a member of the Private Lounge you should ask the CE over there, he is a CLK Black Series owner that also has a SLS AMG.
He did a write up after a track day at Road Atlanta.

I think I also remember another thread where he compared the CLK Black Series to the SLS but I couldn't find it quickly.

I think LZH's reply summed it up well. The CLKBS is stiffer and feels much more like a track car compared to the SLS, which is not by any means "soft"... There are two things I really loved about the SLS. First was the dual-clutch gearbox. I was very impressed with the speed of shifts and accuracy, moreso than the Porsche PDK that I drove. Second is the exhaust note. If you like the CLK BS note, you'll love the SLS even more. The rev-matching downshifts (Speedshift +) are also another benefit.

CLK AMG BLACK SERIES (among other German things)
i tested several sls car at an airfield ( the top gear test track ) all in different specs . i have a lot of track and race experience . the standard car was ok on track but the race suspension ( available from amg NOT ON THE ORDER BOOK here in the uk ) car I tried was much better . unfortunately it was too crashy on the road .
lightweight wheels and carbon brakes with normal suspension was the best balance of the cars we tried that day ( for road and track ) .
i found all the gearboxes reluctant to change down at times ( better than the clk black obviously but no way near as good as a ferrari 458 or a 911 turbo s ). at least it blips the throttle .
it is not as " naughty " as the clk , i completely agree with lzh . its a great , awesome sounding , good looking road car but i cancelled my order and transferred my deposit to the black series variant none the less .

And serious competition for the rest. The car is essentially so balanced out by design, it would kick major *** if they treat it right.
I'll be hoping with you.

On a more mundane level, when I called my dealer to ask about ordering an SLS, i was told, "Absolutely not available". Does anybody know that the car is available in its base form? AS

Talked to three dealers today, all taking orders with deliveries from 6 to 18 months away.

If anyone is seriously looking for one to pickup, I know a dealer in NJ that has a silver SLS available.

Yeah I hear ya - laying down 2 long patches of rubber on the freeway while going 60mph is bad *** and fun...but the SLS is different ballgame. Put them both on the track with equal drivers and I guarantee the SLS comes out ahead every time.

That might depend on the actual 'track'. In extreme twisty conditions the CLK Black might actually rule. Although I agree the SLS kicks major BUTT and will do so in most circumstances.

We were comparing the SL65 BS, not the CLK. But now that you mention it...I'd take the CLK BS over the SLS for the track any day and twice on sundays.
